Hi all,

Maybe an isolated case, or not.

Had my van a couple of weeks now, and after 1000+ miles spotted a problem.

So the instrument cluster, shielded with (plastic) glass has a black plastic "trim".

Basically it's a precut sticky silhouette I imagine covers nasty edges. It covers the whole binnacle with reveals for the +- buttons and 0 and something on the other side.

Only today when bright sunshine shone on the dash did i notice it was cracked and split in one corner.

Not the end of the world, yet its 2 n half years old and surely should last longer?

Is this something known?

Thing is it stuck out like a sore thumb yesterday, but being duller today I forgot about it,
so don't know if its appeared since i bought it, or didn't notice it before.

I did attack the dash with cockpit spray last week, but surely that wouldn't rot a merc?

Advise please.

Paul.

I've been cleaning mine religiously and there are no cracks! Who knows what the previous owner did (accidental knock, ham fisted etc)……was it there and this is the first you noticed?

Hmm it is easy to crack, and is not a separate part on the 639.
Pull it out and see if it will fix and paint.

Thats the thing.

When i noticed it i thought how could i miss it.

Yet I forgot about it today. I'll try and upload some pics so you see what i mean.
It may well have been there for a while.
Seems like some quick drying solvent has been on it, as just one side has cracked, leaving a typical crack pattern, spreading out then stopping.

It's just the trim, yet.

To be honest I though someone would have offered something in carbon/silver/etc as it'd look great. And it seems a self adhesive cover.

I work with quite a few T5, merc hating oichs so want to rectify this before they gloat.

Cheers

Paul.

Thats my thought.

It'll get a bit of colour coding into the interior.
As you suggested I'm going to paint my one piece bumper and grille,
but rather than have the default silver background colour in the grille I'll buy the chrome strips and have my metallic red on the back sides of the grille.

What do you think?

I like the look of the sport, etc, and yours is exceptional,

Though there's no disguising mines is a mere panel van, so a few deviations I feel may complement.?

To Zenman, reply button not working

Cheers

Paul.
