The standard size crankshaft bearings are available in two sizes / thicknesses for the 117.985 (K-jet 4.5 Euro).engine.

A 116 030 05 40 52 which is painted blue
A 116 030 05 40 56 which is painted red

Can anyone tell me what the thickness is for each colour code, or at least which is thicker and which is thinner?

Again different engine but info may be relevant if its Mercedes convention??

from the Peach parts article above in post 2 it would appear that not all MAIN BEARINGS are the same on the same crankshaft? but size might be determined thro associated marks on the crank? Sorry to be so vague I could not come up with a precise answer but there may be something in the above info that rings a bell for you??

Thanks for the links, one of them yielded these comments, so I read from this that the blue shells are the thinnest and red are the thickest.

Blue marking is smallest, yellow next size, red is the largest. in 58mm inside dia=2.255-2.260= use blue, 2.260-2.265= use yellow, 2.265-2.270 = use red --- in a standard size those 3 will work, these are for a 350sdl, but i believe the six cylinders all use the same sizes- for oversize different colors are used 57.75 use blue 2.375-2.380,57.75 gelb 2.380-2.385, replacement oversizes up to 4 are ,were also available, this is wis info as im building a c36 from scratch, using a 3.5 diesel crank in a 104 case i was researching what bearings i would need if available, hope this helps , i woukld let machine shop give you measurements and fit and measure, or with plastigage works good, to make this clear original = use blue/yellow or red , 1st oversize use blue or gelb? (GERMAN? GELB) 2nd oversize use blue or yellow or for 2nd,3rdm4th oversizes

What I have found out so far from the MB documentation is that the standard shell thickness is 2.25mm and that the BLUE coded part is fractionally thinner and the RED fractionally thicker.

The Glyco aftermarket part H801/5 STD is sometimes referred to (but not always) as being equivalent to the A 116 030 05 40 56 which is painted red. I found the content below in the Glyco catalog which shows the thickness to be 2.254mm which stacks up with it being fractionally larger than the nominal size.

Engine rebuild pretty much completed, just need to paint the PS pump and pulleys and fit.
