Hi everyone,

Justa quick note to apologise to anyone who was offended or disturbed by the crash pics i posted the other day, that have been removed by the Moderators.

They were never intended to upset anyone, just to show what can happen, there was no documented evidence of anyone having lost their lives in any of the crashes, and having seen posts in the past from such sites as 'wreckedexotics.com' i thought these might have been appreciated.

I guess i was wrong :(

Anyway, once again just to apologise for any offence caused .

Howard,

Well done and thanks for posting such a conciliatory response and taking it so well. :)

Very much in the spirit of the Forum - which we all hope you continue to use and enjoy :D

I think that this forum is a "cut above" the average car forum, due to the excellent character of most who use it.

I gather from your post that someone got a little upset, which is a shame. Bit like the telly - if you don't like it, don't watch it. I'd be disappointed if the forums was now going to be moderated to this level.

Applause for your gracious handling of the complaint. Applause also for posting them in the first place, in the general spirit of the forum.

I did not see your photos of a crashed car. I often see them in the local press. They are often published with the consent of the Police, and act as a reminder to all motorists that we are all mortal, and hopefully we will drive more carefully and safely. Indeed many Traffic Safety adverts are designed to shock.

Now on what grounds were your photos censored?

I've seen links to worse pics on here but I've got to agree Howard you handled it very well.

I still say the pics were obviously faked and couldn't really have upset or offended anybody (except maybe the person who did the original "artwork") who looked at them for more than about 10 seconds so maybe the complaint came from the person hosting the image?

I agree with Apial, it would be nice to know why the images were "censored" :)

Andy

I should let the Mods who dealt with it speak for themselves; regardless of my personal judgment of the rights/wrongs of the posts/deletions, I just felt that Howard's reaction was worthy of favourable comment.

Hi,
A well handled, gracious response :) I personally saw nothing wrong with the thread, however I could see how someone might not feel the same if they had suffered via a car crash themselves. I will post the otherhalf of this in the feedback section...

Regards,

Peter

ditto from here too - well done Howard.

The photo's were only removed because we received a number of complaints about them from fellow forum members.

We received a few complaints and continued to leave them as they were, on the forum, but after the next one came in I decided to remove them.

It's not easy being a moderator!! :)

I also mentioned to Howard that a link to wrecked exotics could be put in the favourite forum/section, that way we can still visit them, if we wanted.

Hope this helps!

Matt.

I did see the pictures and although I thought one was rather horrific I couldn’t see any problem with them being on here.
Maybe the problem was that they were visible in the post rather than a link. Anyone that would have a problem with them had no real warning of what they were about to see when they clicked on the thread title so it might have been a bit of a shock when they looked at the thread. As Matt suggested, if they were a link with a brief description then there would have been a choice if people wanted to view them or not.

Howard, certainly no offence caused here mate. Well done.

Matt, you can’t please all the people all the time so you just have to do what you have to do.

I wondered what happened to them was looking for them after putting a reply, so they were removed. At the end of the day crashing is a part of life, it happenes, terrible it may be never does any harm for people to see the result of what dangerous driving can end up doing. Is more likely to make people stop and think rather than anything else, removing the pics is just sheltering people from the horrors of the world, but if that was the decision so be it.

Well, I'll be honest and admit that I was one that complained.

The reasons I complained were as follows:

1. We had 3 seperate threads with a selection of pics taken from other sites - some of which contained pics which are widely known to be of a dubious nature. Are we simply a library of pics from other sites? If they were pics of a personal occurrence, or those of a close friend - then I'd not have a concern - as they'd be 'original'.

2. Relevance? Bar the 1 MB pic - what's the relevance to an MB forum of these over any other mashed an bashed pics? Surely a link to the relevant site(s) would suffice? Why not stick a posting in Favourites - with links off to wrecked Exotics, etc ....

2. The nature of the pics. I'm personally not a particular fan of mashed and bashed pics of cars. If anything, they were in bad-taste.

3. The anti-Ford sentiment - the subject on one of the threads. I'm not a personal Ford fan - and don't have a Ford - have had in a previous life - a fester, mundane and a TVR (mostly Ford anyway).

4. Perception of new visitors to this site? Are we simply another group of maxxers, poking fun at someone elses percieved expense (their life)?

4a. We are independently recognised as a quality forum relating to all things MB in the UK (and further) - and rightly so - it's thanks to the wide and varied folks who contribute to this forum on a daily basis that makes this better than any other - with a wide range of experiences, age and cars. I don't think it helps to re-inforce the quality we have.

However, I do appreciate that it's a case of each to their own - and I know that more than most, based on previous erm ..... 'experiences' on this very site.

I know you can't please all of the people all of the time (again based on past 'experiences').

There are many many sites, like wreckedexotics, which posts pics like this every day of the week, and we should them do what they are best at.

I do also know there is a underlying message for us all to extra-careful and extra-vigilant when we're out and about - particularly at this time of year - what with drink-drivers, etc.

This message is important - and we should bear this in mind. Having worked with TVP in a semi-rural station, I've attended accidents, some as first-on-scene and some have been horrific with fatalities - others which appear similar to those pics posted and people have walked away with nothing more than a brusied ego.

So, please do be careful out there - we would like to see your pics posted on here or somesuch site.

Just my own personal opinions - and nothing against anyone here - personal or otherwise.

So flame away - I'm here for the shooting.

Here, here...

Kinky,

There was no anti ford sentiment intended, as you will see from my signature i am in fact the owner of a Ford Ka as well as the Great White Whale that is my coupe.

The title ' a fine job on a ford ' could equally be applied to any brand of car , because the three pictures were of a ford, that is why i chose the title.

Also, there were two Mercedes Benz pictures, one of a CLK and another of an SLK

As i stated earlier in my apology, there was no documented evidence of loss of life, so that cannot be judged as a factor for removal, had there been a footnote on the site of a death, i would never have posted them anyway (and i doubt the site would have either)

Anyway, a small point.... .losts in the mists of time .....

Piccys are gone now so its irrelelevant.

Dont take it to heart they were only some crash pics, think people blow these things out of proportion, not like you showed someone hanging out a windscreen cut to shreds, now that would have cause fro complaint. Personally I think there was nothing wrong with them, and as for being anti ford I drive a Ford Escort van at work and have owned a fiesta, and that was not anti ford, personnally I have found ford to be sh**.
