How they work with the "bulb out" feature in the dash?

Times ago I've installed a pair of LED light with a suitable resistor in parallel.

did u have to fit a resistor or did the bulb just go "like for like" with the old one?

I don't see what is different to a bulb? It lights up?

I think they give a whiter light as the side light rather than the yellowish tinge of standard bulbs.

I plan to purchase some for my W202 as the yellow side light ruins the overall blue/white effect of the xenons.

yeah brighter and it wont "blow" (last ages)

i'm interested in fitting these for front & rear of my car but scared of the "resister may be needed" in the smallprint of ebay ads....

anyone who if u have to fit a resister on a merc (hoping BMW is gonna be the same)

On my W124 , the bulb failure light came on when i fitted the amber leds as indicators.....LED's worked ok, but the the failure light stayed on and was annoying...

So took them out and they are in my cutlery draw at the mo...

I've bought a couple of resistors (sorry I don't remember value) and I've installed them in parallel to the LED socket.

This to simulate normal bulb load. ;) In my W202 work well but may be newer cars are equipped with more "intrusive" bulb failure feature. :D

At the end LED light annoyed me and I put back a couple of standard bulb (more brighter as Raybright if I well remember).

You may also have noticed that practically all of them are for "offroad/show use only" :(

It is if your brakelight or other bulbs blow and you don't notice because the warning lamp is on all the time regardless!

I had some fitted and they looked purplish like those stupid Nova's you see driving around.

The lights in the pictures above look white :)

Led Pain

Hi

This is my first post!

In the past I have fitted leds to the rear of a bmw I also own, I did need to fit resistors (I got mine here http://www.ultraleds.com/) to get the bulb check off and the indicators to flash correctly. (i can send a link to a walk thru I did if anyones interested)

Question!

Today i bought super bright leds for the interior which work really really well (including a snazzy blue one for my glovebox (matchbox), One problem! when i came to fitting the map light the bulb i have bought blows the interior light and locking fuse, so stupidly I tried a 20 fuse instead of the 15, smoke appeared and i whipped the led out pronto, but now it doesnt seem to work even with a normaql bulb , any ideas , have i fried the wiring to it ? If so easy to fix ? Thanks in advance

Please pay a lot of care doing this tests!

It remembre me when I fried my dome light circuit because making some tests with bulbs and led light!

A new dome light assembly was quoted me about 400 Euro, luckily I was able to replace a small el-components and all was solved, so first check if some el-components look burned or fried before ask a quotation to the dealer ;)

hi m8, i'm interested :)

I tried LED cluster lamps in my car for a while and none of them worked good enough or lasted long enough. (I got round the bulb failure lamp by wiring a small 12v grain of wheat bulb in a home made holder attached to the sidelamp holders where the led bulbs were used).
The problem with the chinese made ones are the led's are poor quality and tend to fail in ones or twos which spoil the effect for me.
I still use LED festoon bulbs in the interior lights and for the indicator repeaters on the wings. These seem to last quite well.

sorry quantum2+2, what is a 'grain of wheat bulb' exactly ? I have also found the claims of 'longer life' when it comes to the bulbs to be untrue, but hey they look good?
