Crazy kids and the M6

As I was driving home from work on the M6 between junctions 4 and 5, 2 kids about 15yrs old, were messing about with their bikes. One lad was on the hard shoulder and the other  he was in the central reservation with his bike trying to get across.

I called the Police, and got put straight through to the motorway control room. Whether they did send anyone out or catch the 2 lads I have no clue, but that has to be one of the most stupid things I've ever witnessed.

They had probably crossed the motorway...Doh.

I'm sure the Police would respond pretty quickly to this as there is a real danger to life and limb.

Well done for making the call.

They have no idea how fragile life is at that age. The "it wont happen to me" mentality is really starting to kick in. Just hope they did escape without injury - but that the police caught up with them too!

As I passed, there was a big gap for the lad in the central reservation to cross, but I was a bit shocked to look back and trying to make the call.

This was last night at around 6pm so the traffic was still heavy, and it was fairly close to the M42 junction too for the NEC.

Very true, they have no idea about the dangers of this kind of game.

But it's not just kids, a few months ago, I went past a cyclist on the M4, happily dawdling on...

That being said, when I read other posts here about doing 100, 120 or even 140 mph on the public roads, I'm equally appalled

140mph is pretty fast cycling. :D :D

There was a 11 year old boy killed just a few weeks ago on the M65 - Carol passed the body :(

He had run out to get his ball.....

Our thoughts are with the family of course. But what about the poor driver who hit him? I'm not sure I'd ever recover from that.

I wasn't intentionally diminishing the seriousness of the original post by writing a "play on words" joke on the previous post. As it seems to upset you, I'd better not comment on the 111 year old boy.

I do understand that your wife found the sight of the body very distressing.

As long as he was keeping up with the traffic what's the problem?

He wasn't :D And he was all over the place as well, might have drunk a G+T too many ;)

Thanks for the thought, but we reallly had not taken offence. But nice of you to be sensitive

Whilst there is obviously reason to be sad about hearing of children run down on the Motorway, it should also be asked why were they there?

There appears to be a complete lack of danger and responsibility instilled into children regarding road safety.
Why are children no longer taught to keep off motorways and roads in general?

Just as the old commercials go, "Learn the green cross code as I won't be there when you cross the road"..

Mind you I thing commercials of men in tight fitting green cat suits was definately a bit dodgy and probably shouldn't be shown before the 9 O'clock watershed..

Even if I was, I'm sure you'll survive :D

Just think the Green Cross Man (Dave Prowse) went on to play Darth Vader and scare the hell out of millions of kids.:D
