Does anyone have any experience of a creaking dashboard when driving?

I have an SLK with leather interior.

I wondered if silicone spray down all the joins might help?

Would it do any harm if it didn't help

Any comments are gratefully recieved:rock:

HIYA

I have the original slk. the quality was appauling and thus after time, creaking will happen.
check the screws, check dash joints. If dash lights have been changed where the bits have been taken out to get to the back, then this can loosen the plastic.

silicon may help, but only if you can pin point the creak..

tough one!

Thanks for the comments, mine is a 2001 car - so facelifted and hopefully not as badly constructed the very early ones were(apparently)
I will check the screws and dash joints then silicone spray the joins and post my findings on here.

Thanks again.

An alternative to silicone that lasts forever and was specifically developed for just this type of problem is Krytox, made by Dupont.
Do a search on the web and you will be able to do your own research on the product.
I have used it and it works like they say it does.

VW sell it as "special lubricant" in two forms one in a liquid form with similar consistency to cream the other in a spray can that delivers it in a fog, i.e. much finer than fly spray.

Picture attached of both, you can see the VW part number for each in the photo, starts with a G.

It is not cheap, but it works.

Regards to all, W.

MB do the same product in the same bottle

Thanks for the information on this product.
- I have after a while of searching found that Krytox by DuPont is available from www.ProperAutoCare.com it cost $3.98 for a bottle of liquid and have ordered it(they wont post aerosols)
I'll post the results on here when I've recieved it and tried it out.
If it does the job I'll be 100% delighted with the car.
Cheers!

Further to my thanks on the informaton on Krytox, I fond this info on how to silence creaking seals on an SLK roof If anyone should need to know how to do it:

the technician at the dealership to show me what had to be done. Basically, pop the roof off halfway, and apply the lubricant to all the rubber seals where the roof will contact when its closed. Done!...and no more squeaks!

- If it works~and I am hoping it will, I'll post the results here.

Works a treat on seals too, dont put it near glass!!!! Can't get it off too easily.

What ever you buy be careful that you are not getting a "watered down" solution, Krytox is not cheap if what you are planning to buy is, get a MSDS and see just exactly what % they are putting in the stuff!!!!!

All the best, W.

slk 230 - 2001 middle section exhaust needing replacing, I wondered if there were alternatives to the £500 price quoted to me(no cat) - norfolk uk
I can't believe £500 is the best price and will welcome any comment.
Cheers
K
