On the few (rainy) occasions where I've driven my SLK from cold with the roof up recently, I've noticed that for the first mile or so the headlining tends to respond to every bump or pothole with a noticeable creak. I'm assuming this is because the plastic is cold, as once the interior has warmed up a bit the creaking is no longer evident.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and managed to solve it? I'm wondering whether getting the headlining covered in Alcantara might be a solution.

Any suggestions welcome.

Merc do a set of noise dampening sprays and coatings specifically for hardtops. The guys at my local Merc specialists produced this tiny little white Mercedes branded case with a selection of bottles and droppers inside after I mentioned a few squeeks in my SLK R171.

Worked a treat!

Many thanks, redspecial2000. My car is going in for its MoT at the end of next week, so I'll ask about this while I'm there.

I do also recall reading a post on another forum at one point from the States where SLK owners used small pads of felt for the gaps between the plastic roof lining and the metal folding roof in order to reduce noise on temperature warm up.

I always noticed that the trim noise went down in cooler temperatures such as rain.

I don't want to post links to another forum on this one, but Im srue if you do a search for "SLK" "roof" and "felt" it'll be out there...
