A few days ago I had the rear axle rubber mounts replaced. Since then the rear suspension has been creaking every time I go over a large bump/speed bump, etc. It seems to be getting worse.

I phoned the specialist who carried out the work and he says the two shouldn't be related.

If that is the case, does anyone have any ideas why the rear suspension is making this creaking noise.

When I bought it, the car was thoroughly checked over by MB and they picked up the rear axle mounts were worn, but that was it.

Am I right to be suspicious that the noise has only started since the work was done by the specialist or do you think it's something else.

Any thoughts will br greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Kevin

Hi,

It could be related but could be damper related. I've seen a few 124s and 140s with self leveling dampers at the back that have started creaking.

I would get the car on a 4 post ramp and pull the suspension up and down to see where the noise comes from.

Job

possible balljoint creaking. This could have occrred as a result of the suspension hanging, alternatively the anti-roll bar bushes could be binding on the bar.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Are either of the solutions likely to be expensive if they prove to be right??

Balljoints or bushes are cheap. In the unlikely event of a self leveling damper creaking it will be a few hundred pounds

Thanks for that Job.

It's booked back in with the specialist again on Friday, so I shall find out more then.

Thanks again.

The specialist says it's the anti-roll bar bush and link rod. He's quoted £58 + vat to replace both which I didn't think was too bad. So, I'm going to get it done next week.

Thanks for everyone's help.
