hi as per title any opinions on crewe engines?

2.3 16v w201 with big end failure by the sounds of it. 120k on clock am thinking bite the bullet and go for a full engine remanufacture from them.

would like some opinions if poss.

Can't comment Crewe engines but they have rebuild 16V's before. What I would be concerned about is the failure. Sounds like a badly abused car.

By all accounts they are probably one of the best in the business. I know many here have used them.
One member had an issue recently as they couldn't tell him exactly what they had done to his engine. I believe it was a good job though. He just would have liked to know exactly what they had to do.

They are good, no complaints from me.

I have used them a few times. Once it went very wrong. A piston of the wrong size was fitted......

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

There are plenty of engine re-builders around depending on your location obviously.

Whoever you decide to use you have to nail them down on the difference between a re-manufactured and a re-conditioned engine.

In my years in the motor trade to re-conditioned an engine usually seems to involve finding a used one from a breakers yard, steam cleaning it and then painting it.

You then sell the pretend re-conditioned engine with an extensive warranty with enough exclusions to ensure that you never need to pay out.

There's a place near Heathrow who have been at it for years and seen unclosedownable despite the authorities best efforts.

They externally re-condition them then.
