hi i own a e300 1999 diesel estate and am just wondering how to get cruise control working. currently anything i press on the stick will only activate limit. which works fine. there is no light on the stick when i press it to activate cruise instead of limit?
is there a fix for this?
thanks
Dan

To activate CC either push the stalk up or down...do not press it in.

Also, on my 2006 car, moving the stalk towards you or pushing it backwards, will re-engage previous speed or disconnect.

Also...

Touching the brake or accelerator pedal will disengage the Cruise Control.

Stepping on the accelerator sharply will disengage the Speed Limiter.

hi thanks for your replies. I understand how it works and i have tried every combination or pushing pulling flicking etc it just doesnt seem to activate anything. is there a light thats supposed to come on when its active? could it be the stick/switch itself? would it be possible to not work but the limit work fine???
sorry for all the questions
Dan

No light comes on.
Yes, the limit part may work but not the rest of the CC functions.
It could be the stalk, brake light switch, differences in rolling radius of your tyres.

No light comes on.

Are your tyres front and rear all the same?

all tyres are the same. The Light for limit comes on on the dash but nothing on the stalk or dash comes on for cruise.
to my knowlege the brake lights both come on fine. is there a seperate fuse for cruise opposed to limit?
thanks for help

The brake light switch does more than just operate the lights. It's been known for the brake lights to work but not the cruise control.

Changing the switch is cheap and easy, it may be worth a go.

Around £11 from dealer for the last one I got.

Cruise only becomes available above a certain speed, the limiter can be set at any speed. You are trying this at road speed aren't you?

I have a similar issue to you, my limiter light comes on but nothing on the display - sadly I think my issue is more complex as I have distronic and MB were involved with the previous owner :-( I'm going to change my brake light switch tomorrow just in case though

i have just had a brake sensor chnged in the engine bay by the brake servo is this the thing you mean? it had the bas light on it so had it changed.
i am trying it when driving at speed but what ever i do it just brings on limiter which ever way i push/pull the stick.
Is there a fuse for cc?

could it be a faulty stalk perhaps? I don't know - just a suggestion

yeh thats what im maybe thinking but it looks a bit of mission to change! Anyone done this before?
Gonna try the brake switch too see if that helps! thanks

Stalk is pretty easy.

Torx bolts to remove airbag.
10mm Allen bolt to remove steering wheel

Then it's a doddle.

Did the switch make any difference ?
