Cutting Wheels on Stainless Steel

I would have thought asking the seller on eBay to be a better bet ........

Screwfix does cutting discs which you can refund if they're the wrong ones. But regarding to you question, i don't know the answer.

Only use grinding wheels rated for Stainless Steel when grinding Stainless Steel. There are impurities in grinding wheels for grinding Carbon Steel that damages Stainless Steel, from memory the main culprit is Zinc and can cause Stainless to fail prematurely, gets into the grain boundries and starts a type of cracking. Again from memory, so please, if there are any metallurgists here correct me if I am wrong.

Regards to all, W.

The usual specs for inox cutting/grinding discs are 'free from sulphurous, chlorinated and ferrous fillers', all of which can cause corrosion issues. Just as importantly don't use any abrasives that have been previously used on carbon steel- can embed contamination into the surface of the stainless which will rust.

Those Smith and Arrow cutting discs are good, there are better brands such as Sait (longevity, cutting dust etc) but with regards to value for money Smith and Arrow are right up there

Many 'cheap' cutting discs are actually more expensive- they wear out so fast you get through far more discs. Factor in the heat from poor cutting performance, excess dust etc and they quickly become a real waste of money

@ LTD - i want to get other POV's.

@ pos. k - i dunno.. surprise me..
