4. soft top again - the clunk / bangs as the catches move - is this a further sign of lube required?

Regards P.1:

You should have two torx head/alan head bolts on either side of the steering wheel which holds the horn pad/airbag unit to the steering wheel (make sure to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery first). You will need to unscrew these but be careful with the airbag as it is delicate.

When you have removed the horn/airbag unit you need to disconnect it and put it to one side. There is a nut in the centre of the steering wheel that holds it in place and it is VERY tight. You will need 2 people to unscrew it using a breaker bar - one to hold the steering wheel, the other to undo. DO NOT USE THE STEERING LOCK TO BRACE THE TURN as you may break it.

You can then take your steering wheel off and replace. Make sure your front wheels point straight ahead before removing your old steering wheel.

Just to add regarding the steering wheel removal, the centre bolt once loosened should not be totally removed until the wheel is free on the spline as you can quite easily smash the steering wheel into your face when it let's go of the spline. Also if you have a coded stereo make sure you have the code before you disconnect the battery. If you don,t have the code you can still remove the steering wheel but whilst the airbag is disconnected you must not turn on the ignition as it will log a fault and bring up a warning light.

re 4 Thats just the way it is, you can lube up as much as you like I doubt anything will change
