Germany's Transport Ministry says that the Daimler cars that contain unauthorised software defeat devices are Mercedes-Benz C-Class and models with diesel engines and a sports utility variant of the sedan, known as the GLC.

Daimler is recalling 238,000 cars in Germany after it was discovered that 774,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Europe contain the devices that allow them to cheat emissions tests.

I have to say this is a crock ....

All MB , VW and other cars that have this software WILL return the stated mpg/emmissions as long as they are driven within the stated parameters .

Obviously , if they are operated outwith these parameters then the results will be different .

So what ?

MercedesGate??

This recent German enquiry evidently started with some VITO vans a few months back. Mercedes are still embroiled in the US court system about a emissions challenge mounted in 2016.

Great.... Not exactly surprised, but disappointed.

Digging deeper would indicate the engines that were first flagged in the VITO vans were the
Renault derived 1600cc OM622 [ OM 626] diesels, and before anyone jumps all over Renault for this the engines are heavily modified by MB including the engine ECU which is where the " disputed" software resides. I am unaware of precisely which UK models [ if any] have this particular engine fitted

This "alleged" defeat software is supposed to save the exhaust system/DPF from getting blocked up. Apparently the Urea reacts with the gasses and the soot and forms a slime at low temps, this software stops the Urea being added until the engine is up to running temp.
