Hi, my GLC (2024) was hit by a G wagon on a round about; it hit the near side passenger door side with damage to door, rear wheels, possibly suspension (rear wheel slightly jutting out). My dealership (Liverpool) put me in touch with AX accident mgmt company who are taking it to Mercedes body shop in Chester (I think Inchcape). It is a no-fault accident, AX has said they will speak to third party insurer and sort out everything. Does members know what can I expect from Mercedes body shop - will the door, wheel and any unseen internal damage be restored to perfection?

Hi are you paying for it or is it getting done through your insurance ot the other driver

AX are part of a credit hire company who may provide you a replacement Merc and try to add to your insurance claim by a grand a week or more.

The TP insurer will be in touch to disengage them.

Be careful what you sign or agree to with AX

If the TP insurer can establish their rates are toppy, who is liable for the shortfall AX will have.
Are they selling you 'insurance' to cover against that....?

Oh and yes, the body shop used should do a decent job and validate (and repair and warrant) all work they do for 12 months or more, but check the agreement

Long threads, but the bits about using an accident management company are worth reading.

The dealer or garage get paid a referral fee for referring you to the accident management company. But in reality you don't need them, just call the other-party's insurer and talk to them directly, they'll sort you out, including providing you with a suitable rental vehicle for the duration of the repair.

I don’t see the harm in using the management company if they’ll take the hassle away from you? Yes it’ll inflate the claim but it’s not on your policy anyway.. 🤷‍♂️

There shouldn't be any hassle with a no fault claim

It will affect everyones policies as Insurance companies will factor this in to all of our premiums. These accident management companies don't care about anything except profit at the expense of others.

It has the potential of landing you in trouble (happened to me once, learnt my lesson), but obviously most people do not experience problems when using accident management firms, and so, yes, when it works, it works well.

Have a question after the repairs are done would the car need to be classed as a category c

Why do you need an accident mgmt co if it's no-fault?
I was told either I could go through my insurer who will speak to theirs or the accident mgmt company will do instead so I don’t have to claim thru my insurer. The accident mgmt company will do only of it is no-fault accidents. This is through my MB dealership in Liverpool. Thanks

Thanks. Third party insurer never got in touch with me yet. TP never bothered to take my details - they just shoved their details on a piece of paper when I sat in my car in complete shock when accident happened. TP just seemed to want to get away from the scene as quickly as possible. Told this to police also who came soon after. I didn’t see any difference between what my insurer and Accident mgmt company would do - both are going to charge the TP insurer. But the fact that AX is recommended by my MB dealership and that I don’t have to make any claim to my insurer makes this more appealing to me. Will be grateful to know if this is the right choice. Yes they may inflate the prices to TP insurer - but why should I bother about someone who didn’t even have the basic decency to check on me or wait till I could speak.

Thanks. As I previously replied, I am not bothered abt the third party or their insurer. They didn’t show any decency after the accident even though it was 100% their fault.

Sorry what is category C? If the car gets repaired by authorised MB body shop, will it be restored to original ? Will there be any drop in value (as opposed to if the accident hadn’t happened)?

I dare say your insurance will go up mine did as i was hit by a woman 2years ago my car only got scratched down two sides and a broken alloy and two airbags out and got written off and she got done for dangerous driving

Was the police not called out at the accident plus did the other driver say it was their fault

There are 4 categories for damaged vehicles in the UK.

1. Category A (Unrepairable):
  • This category signifies the most severe damage.

  • The vehicle is deemed completely irreparable and must be crushed at an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF).

  • No parts can be salvaged for use in other vehicles.
2. Category B (Unrepairable, but Salvageable Parts):
  • Similar to Category A, this category indicates extensive damage beyond repair.

  • The vehicle's body shell must be crushed, but some parts (like the engine or gearbox) may be salvaged for use in other vehicles.
3. Category S (Structural Damage, Repairable):
  • This category means the vehicle has sustained structural damage, meaning damage to the car's chassis or frame.

  • While repairable, the cost of repairs may be higher than the vehicle's pre-accident value.

  • These vehicles can be returned to the road after proper repair and inspection.
4. Category N (Non-Structural Damage, Repairable):
  • This category indicates that the vehicle has sustained non-structural damage, such as cosmetic or minor mechanical issues.
  • Repairs are typically less extensive and less costly than those for Category S vehicles.
  • These vehicles can be returned to the road after appropriate repairs.
Your vehicle will likely be classified as a category N. If the insurance company record the damage and the repair it will have this marker against it I assume.

If so it could reduce its value.

If the car is recorded as Class N, then your accident management company should be able to get some compensation for you for loss-of-value.
