Car
E270 cdi Avantgarde; Wifes car Yellow VW Beetle (new shape)
A flat battery this morning saw a brand new C200 cdi on the driveway courtesy of Mobilo.

Black, and very very new....3000 miles.

Have you ever been in a shoe shop, tried on a new pair, and then decided that the ones you wore into the shop look tatty?

Well, my E270 is lovely, but it is now three years old, has a couple of minor battle scars (you wouldn't notice them but I know they are there), and the interior sees a hoover every 6 months (which is not enough with 2 boys under 10 that have an appettite for crisps and Happy meals)

This C200 was mint.

And all of a sudden my E270 was an old pair of shoes.

Damn, damn and damn.

I know that when I drop the C200 off I shall be cruising the showroom to see what a brand new E class is like, and no doubt will fall prey to some unforgiving vulture of a salesman who will recognise my vulnerability.

Why couldn't they just have left me an apple green Corsa and let me get on with my life without having to worry about changing cars.

Rant over :D

why not treat your E to an all over full valet?

Yes, been there, done that, many many times ... I'm sure they do it deliberately, you know.

:D Better still, give your kids the hoover and tell them to get cracking!
I assume they are old enough to be incentivised by money!
It may not be a full valet, but it might teach them to treat the car with more respect. You can always get it done properly later.

I wish I was rich enough to have that problem.

Not that it matters when I lug my ageing W202 into Bloggs Garage for a bargain basement service. Even if they did have a courtesy car it would probably be a 20 year old Fiat Panda :o

Know exactly what you mean ...

Mine was in the bodyshop a couple of weeks ago and they loaned me a new (1200 miles) C220CDi* for 2 weeks ... remarkably nippy and so .... new and fresh and clean and spangly.

Apart from the cream carpets ... with no overmats, which, quite surprisingly, got very dirty, very quickly

*Changed my perceptions of diesels *completely* ... although don't think my neighbours appreciated the noise on first start-up at 5am :D

Didnt you find the C200 slow?

So, how much are you selling it for ? Remember, you won't be wanting much for OLD SHOES will you! :D

Ah, but how long would it stay like all fresh that?

Not long by the sounds of it! Get a full professional valet. Done properly a murder scene can be made all fresh.

I was quite suprised with the performance of a C200 CDi when i was given one as a courtesy car by the Stealer. It did not feel sluggish/underpowered at all and did feel responsive...

I had a "great time" in the C200K courtesy car that i was given not that long ago until it had to go back. During the last week that I had the car in my pocession I did not wash it from the exterior (due to insurance company messing me around and I was quite cheesed off) it was soo dirty that the driver who came to collect it was so pi$$ed off that he could not check the conditon of the black paintwork for scratches/dings/dents etc. and left in a rite strop... The C200K is quite nippy too (especially off the mark...)

I thought that at the start , but the more i drove it , the mode disillusioned i became with it. And to boot on the same journey to work driving the same way as the 270 i got worse mpg in the 200 :S

We had a very new C200 CDi on the drive today through Mobilolife. Silver - looked stunning with big five spoke alloys, Avantgarde trim, and full leather. Rode beautifully too, and fantastic inside.

I was hoping that the performance would take me by surprise, but it didn't, probably because I'm more used to driving something with a little more poke. It was an auto - I think this model might benefit more from a manual gearbox to see it in it's very best light, as it didn't seem to select the right ratio on a few occasions and the engine seemed to struggle as a result.

Very nice car though!!

When mine broke down a couple of months ago Mobilo gave me a Volvo! I was very happy to get the E270 back, and it had been washed!

I'm sure the V70 is a lovely car with a bigger engine, such as the D5 or T5, but they gave me the base model!

I was looking at a V70 the other day and was surprised how small it seemed inside. Not much bigger than a C class, and certainly nothing like as big as an E

Never had an M-B courtesy car, but VW gave me a diesel Polo when the windscreen on my Sharan had to be replaced. New and shiny but sounded and drove like a tractor compared to our Jazz, and certainly didn't tempt me away from a 204 bhp V6! :)

Excellent !!!!

Done 200 miles and had it for 36 hours. Now its a bit grubby in and out I realise:

its underpowered compared to the E270 (but still very good), I can hear the windscreen wiper motor alot, the radio is very tinny; I don't like where the heater controls are; there's a uncomfortable bit on the seat (like I'm sat on something), the rear seats don't fold flat and so buying a step ladder from focus was a laugh; nobody looks when you drive down the high street (my E270 is a bit more bling than most....)

Thank god - novelty of brand new car wearing off - really missing my E270 - back on Tuesday when the interior light unit is replaced as its been draining the battery it seems.

Hope they give it a valet.... !!!!

No offence but the W203 is my opinion with (bi xenons, sports suspension and bling/nice alloys) is a way more attractive/good looking car than a W211 as the W203 is a "sporty baby S Class" as also referred to by the media... Fair enough I accept the fact that a W203 may not be physically bigger/roomier as a W211...

I have had a W211 Avantagarde for a w/end on loan in the past from a Stealer and it did not turn as many heads as my W203 (certainlty did not turn more tahn my W203 did anyway... ). The styling on the rear of a W211 is not as appealing as a W203 i.e. rear light clusters and for the first time many people that I know that saw me in the W211 said that it was an "old man's " car and joked that it must be one my Dad's cars where the W203 recieved nothing but compliments and praise from young/older people (but my former W203 was no ordinalry spec car...). But on the other hand I am younger looking... (26)

None taken :D

On reflection my comments were unfair to W203 owners and I can see why you were "urged to defend".

We all have different tastes in cars which is a good thing otherwise they'd all be the same.

No offence to the W203. It is an accomplished car. The undistintive C200 cdi on my drive just isn't quite to my tastes - in the same way that there are some very very plain W211's

Enjoy your car........i'm certainly missing mine

Marc
