After reading a few posts on this very forum I thought it would be a lovely evening to take my baby out for a spin.
After about half an hour of twisty winding country roads I hopped on to the dual carraigeway towards home for the last 1/2 mile. Just before my turning a stone was thrown up by the vehicle in front and managed to put a perfect star shape right in my line of sight! This is the second time I have had to replace the windscreen because of stone chips. Twice in one year.
I had my previous car for 5 years and didn't pick a single mark up on the windscreen in that time. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

Still, apart from the end, the rest of the spin was beautiful.

Ditto.......... in my previous car ive been driving for 5 years without a single stone chip on the windscreen. As soon as i had the merc got 2 long cracks in a week!!! Its like the proverbial bus i guess!

Yep - I've never known a car (in 30 yrs of driving) pick up windscreen chips like my W203. Almost every long journey results in a 'hit' at some point.
First trip in it caused a chip that was able to filled, but is still visible.
One saving grace is that there several of the chips are in the blacked out part of the screen behind the mirror.
Thing that amazes me is there frequently seems to be no other car around! I got one hefty hit on a single carriageway A road and there were no other cars in either direction - I seriously wonder if birds drop stones!

That is so strange.............. exactly what has happened to me on both occasions. No trucks or even cars around and BHAM.... makes you wonder.

Hmm. I got one the other day after driving it back from having the wing replaced  A rather loud bang. Made a kind of horse shoe shap so no chance of repair.

Amazing how a spin in an AMG makes you feel so good. :D Took my dad out in it yesterday   Never seen him grip the seat so tightly before.

i had a chip in mine repaired just before the brunters trip. i have never had a chip in any other car before.

i have purposely not washed the car since the brunters trip as on two occasions i followed MAff, and we were doing over 100, (well i was, he may have been a bit slower:) ) and i suspect i may find a chip or 2 that was thrown up from his car.

In topgear mag, they have an Astra VXR that has had a new windscreen due to cracking, and the guy who changed thiers said he was doing loads of Astras, apparently they suspect thinner glasss.

Best give the car a clean now as its going to torquay in a few weeks.

took a guy from my gym for a very short ride in the gym car park 2 weeks ago. he lowered in the seat as i floored it. Aweek later he told me he had never experinced that kind of power before.

makes me wanna keep it. not sure if i can put up with any other bits falling off it, or leaks and such like.

damned addictive

Wonder how many people take pot shots at Mercs with airguns? Hot air balloonists in the states are on record they frequently find bullet holes in the balloon material in after flight inspection. Hot air balloon=BIG TARGET for any jackass with a hunting rifle!

Had something throw up coming down the M1 the other week, hit the front of the wing/wheel arch.... left a nice scratch and dent! Managed to tidy it as best I can but the concensus seems to be it needs a paint job to fix properly!
At that point I had had the car a week!
Must have been something like an exhaust mount as it left rubber marks on the paint too!
Stopped in the Services at Nottingham for a look and felt like having a cry!
:(

I always feel great after driving the CLK.
Sometimes I use it as an anti-depressant!
Gave a new golf R32 a run for it's money the other day.
Damn quick little cars those.

Just had the windscreen replaced on Sunday, the second time in 3 months.

I insisted on an original Mercedes screen as I felt the RAC Autowindscreens one was of poor quality, slightly the wrong shade of green, and the tiniest stone chip turned into a footlong crack in 2 weeks.

Got it fitted by Autoglass and chatting to the fitter found out they actually used the same manufacturer as Mercedes. Sometimes they have to scrape the Merc star off (for trademark reasons!?). He showed me the difference between the old RAC screen and the one he fitted, and the Merc one looks definitely thicker and the lamination is of better quality I'm told.

I hope it lasts a bit longer anyway...

I suggest insisting on an original screen, they'll probably try to dissuade you but do persevere, it does make a difference.

Regards
Karl

Yes,
I had already had it replaced with an original MB one before and did insist that it be MB again.
Thanks for the heads up anyway.

had a go in Maff's Mates one at Bruntinghthorpe. Even though we were up against Maffs, (Which just left us as thought we were nailed to the floor) I was very impressed with it, well put together too.

its quite an experince seeing just how fast a really fast car leaves you. I hope the guy in the Subaru was as impressed about this fact when I demolished his attempt. In fact it would have been good to compare the subaru with the R32. they seemed about even.
