hi there, unfortunately not battery related, so took to boxermotorworks merc speciailst, he done some tests on star and he tells me he is getting no readings from the cluster and he says its probably going to be a new cluster job!! £6-700 alone for the cluster, ive left it there for him to diagnose and get back to me tomorrow with exact diagnosis, but he told me he thinks more likely it will reuaire new cluster! i will of course keep updated -

Unfortunately this happend to my brothers clk covertible-they replaced whole display cluster!. rgds:(

yes this is what the indie is advising, he couldnt give me a full diagnosis today but will do tomorrow, what was your brothers charge with new cluster and fitting any idea? thanks

hi rjv, how did you get on re your cluster? mines looking like needs new one

Rjv

Bad news for me
Mr Mercedes tells me the dash unit may cost £1200!!!!!!!!! that's £900ish +vat
There are two or three options he suggests.
Crazy but go to mercedes as the time for labour is not that much so £1200 may be £1300 ish.
He works at Mercedes so can get the dash and fit it but at that money he's worried if it went wrong again!!!!
There is a company BBA on 01634230055 who repair Clusters.
I have not tried the battery overnight.
He doesn't think its gonna work.
Have you tried that yet.
I can't my wife uses the car daily in daylight fortunately.
You have to be wary of speed cameras!!
Best solution is put satnav on so to ascertain speed

Gotta say somebody must have a solution My man says quite common occurance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi rjv, i am in a similar boat, after exploring battery route, to no avail, i took to boxermotorwork (from my experience competant merc specialists) he advises me the same , that he thinks its going to require new cluster from mercedes which he said are around £6-700 , i left car with him to explore further before he takes the new cluster route, but he did say he has gut feeling will require new cluster! annoying thing with mine is, its only done 20k so wouldnt expect it too fail, just bad luck i guess - with regards to repair, i am aware of a place in portsmouth which claim to be able to repair them, so i may before i give boxer the go ahead to replace, take the cluster down there to see if they can repair, they say if they cant there is no charge, and takes them around 40 mins, if they can repair they say its £150, but im thinking it may just be best to be done with it pay the circa £1000 and have a brand new guaranteed one, i will let you know tomorrow what happens

Hi Yes
It hurts
There is that BBA company in medway which is a little closer to home.
Maybe they're worth a phone call

yes im aware of such companies, however im thinking whats the point, there is obviously a problem with our units, if they are repaired theres a high chance they will go again, i think best to bite bullet pay the money and have peace of mind of a new one and the work being guarantted by the company that undertake the job, in my case boxer motor works , let me know how you get on , ill do like wise

**update** there is no other way forward for my clk than a new instrument cluster unit £978+vat plus fitting 2 hours labour!

Rjv

Guess what the cluster has just come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why oh Why

yep i wreckon if i had ample time to drive mine it would too, however as discussed on phone there is obviously a problem there, best you take to bba as discussed, ill let you know the outcome of mine:thumb:

hi rjv can you give me a call please mate, just wanted to check symptoms with you re dash, many thanks

hi jay many thanks, your name rings a bell, did i buy a buy a 220 coupe from you via ebay about 5 years ago , with regards to the clk, to your knowledge do the repairs tend to be permanent or just a temp thing? many thanks

Hi,

You may have done!?

Repairs are permanent and come with guarantee. There are other companies out there too.

the indie dealing with my clk 'boxermotorworks' has sent the unit to a company called actronix in essex for repair, hope there as competant as the place you advise jay, ill update as and when

they have quoted him £110 to repair, if they cant repair just the cost of carriage, im hoping they can repair obviously, however im not so sure as everyone i read about have showed signs of life, mine however is totally dead, doesnt show anything:-/

Yes I think there is some module in it that fails...
