Factory Fit Deployable Towbar removed following unrepairable failure Detach Towbar and electrics fitted Adviced at time dash board warning would need to be removed by Mercedes Star system. Car went in for service and was set up on star Mercedes advised could not remove warnings without switching off electrics to new socket fitted. Just booked car in for service and MOT this year in June 2025. Mercedes have emailed me enquiring have I got the dash board warning problem resolved ? as the car will fail its MOT. Any suggestions please to correct the problem

I'm just guessing - seems like a major safety item warning and IMO, it will fail. As I am not a mot tech/mechanic I'd wait to see what others state.

This warning relates to the faulty factory fit deployable tow bar that has been removed

In that case, it may not be.
If no one gives a definitive answer to the question here - when you have a mo, just go to a garage that does mot's and ask.

As long as its not a danger you are good. - my MOT place told me this a couple of days ago.

Only the EML is an MOT failure, other errors are taken as advisories (unless they result in something dangerous) - you should be ok in this instance as you arent actually towing.

Last year the car was put on the Mercedes star system to try and remove the warning, it could be switched off but it then switched off the new towbar electrics altogether. This was done to pass the MOT on the car. Obviously this year for MOT the car will not be connected to the Mercedes star system , Hence when booking my next service and MOT, by return email Mercedes enquired had I resolved the dash warning light for the `towbar? as this will fail the car MOT

I'm with Killerhertz and MSG2004 (MonoSodium Glutamate? Are you a chef by any chance?).

Yep EML lights are a fail.....text warnings are an advise at worst. My car passed with the passenger airbag warning text between the dials.....but its only the occupancy sensor....so the airbag light is not on so its a pass....was not even advised on. I want to get it sorted before the next one through.

Further developments My Mercedes has been into a qualified Technician that has availability to Star system and panel that advises on unsolved problems.
The out come appears they have managed to delete the Trailer coupling check lock sign, that came on when ignition first switched on.
The Tow Ball warning lamp that appears in the speedo dial cannot be removed by Star.
What they believe needs to be done is, to remove the Tow bar coding from the original build coding as it left the factory with a factory fit deployable tow bar.
They can then introduce the new tow bar with coding via star.
Can anyone offer any further help and further advice.
This has to be resolved as Mercedes have advised me the car will fail MOT due in 4 weeks time.

Could you go visit your mot man and ask whether the tow bar light is a failure? If not it gives you a bit longer to find a solution.

Have you checked the online MOT testers guide to establish if it is an MOT fail or not?

Or just call your MOT centre and ask?

Booked car in for annual service and MOT Within 10 minutes text received from Mercedes dealership asking had I solved Towbar dash warning lamps, as the car will fail its upcoming MOT

No disrespect to mercedes but I'd still want confirmation from an independent tester.

As others have said: just ask an MoT tester. If he/she says it will pass, get it tested there, not by MB. Simples...

(Can the 'Technician' who advised you of the possible solution not do the re-coding required anyway? If he has a full Star subscription with Xentry, this should not be a problem.)

It is the factory coding that has to be changed that only Mercedes can do I am advised. They need to change coding as if the vehicle left the factory with out any tow bar fitted.
