Dashcams on newer Mercedes Benz

I fitted a nextbase dash cam myself bought from Halfords with the hard wire kit.
It took about 30mins connected to the fuse box at the end of the dash on the drivers side
Easily tucked the wire behind the trim on the pillar and just under the roof lining.
The hardest part was removing the cover on the fuse box!I used a credit card under the trim tool to prise of the fuse box cover so that it doesn't permanently mark the dash around the cover which is very easily done.
Overall very pleased with the result the cam switches on and off with the ignition and I tucked the spare cable under the roof lining so that I can reposition the cam easily.
My car is a C43 AMG 2017
Hope this helps

I did exactly the same, apart from the fact that I also removed the Airbag Cover from the Windscreen Post, if you remove the "Airbag" Sign it reveals a clip that can be removed and the whole cover comes away. A straightened metal coat hanger is also a very handy tool! I used the Safety Brake Fuse as a power source as it's Ignition Off with the hard wire kit and it's 5 Amp, your only problem is finding the nearest Earth, but the Cable is long enough to reach anywhere!

Hey all.

I am a new member and just purchased my first ever German car a Mercedes c class 2017 amg. Stunning car.

I wonder if anybody has successfully installed (hardwire) a dash cam on their car and if so how they did it? What camera?

Halfords seem to offer a hardwire dashcam service but am unsure if they would know how to tap in to the fuse box on such a new Mercedes?

Would love to hear other members experiences in this

Best wishes

I've had dashcams for longer than most. Had an insurance case settled, no fault, within 24 hours when I submitted video recording.

The current one is a £80 unit bought off e-Bay, front and rearward facing cameras in my SLK 55. easy enough to route wiring behind windscreen top trim, A pillar and through to aux 12v connector in footwell where it is permanently wired in.

Comes on automatically when the power is turned on, fit and forget. Just occasionally erase the SD card to make sure there's plenty of room for locked files ( the unit locks a file everytime there is a bump or sudden movement )

I have fitted units to my company vehicle, wifes car, and both kids.

Invalidate warranty .... I hardly think so.

Halfords .......... not in my lifetime!
Nimbusgb, what way did you route the cable from the rear camera to the dash? And where did you fit the camera? On the back ( Nr. plate ) Panel? and then thread the cable under the boot carpet, or where? Thanks

I've fitted a DDPai Mini2 cam to my C204. I tapped the wire going to the ciggie lighter and then ran it behind the dash over the glovebox to a trailing 12v socket.

This contains an Anker dual USB adaptor with a feed running up the A pillar to the dashcam and another running back to the centre of the dash for my phone mount.

It all works pretty well but the dashcam seems to reduce the DAB radio sensitivity.

Is this ignition switched or permanent live ?

I had a BlackVue 650 hard wired to my glc by a trusted auto electrician, when I swapped to the a45 I’ve had a BlackVue dr900 front and rear done by same electrician, not had any problems with either,I’ve had the last one done through a BlackVue box where you can have it on all the time or in increments of two hours going up,but will also shut down if battery voltage drops below set parameters, all works fine and had no problems would recommend.

Are there any other 12V sockets in a W205? I have my dashcam plugged into the centre console one but it's not ideal really - stops the cover closing and you have wires trailing up the side into it. My last BMW had one concealed in the passenger foot-well which was useful.

On my CLS I have a Nextbase 512 hardwired to the centre console. I used to bean ICE specialist so wiring and routing was not a problem.
One thing to note is take care not to foul the air bag on the pillar.
On my car everything is neatly tied up at regular intervals and looks almost like it was done at the factory.
My previous car, a Jaguar XF was written off a year ago this week and had the Nextbase 312. It was with the footage shown to the attending Police which resulted in a careless driving penalty to to the other driver and insurance settled with no problem. I now use the 312 in my Rover 75 Connoisseur again hard wired.

Its tapped off the ciggie lighter so is a switched live (which means I don't get parking mode)

Which means you're missing out hugely .

Parking mode - car park pangs with excellent footage as vehicle is stationary .

What type of dash camera did you use?
