I want to de-badge my car (take off the c lettering) and was wondering which was the best way to go about this? Is it better done with something like a hair-dryer to heat it first to make the lettering loose? Any advice much appreciated as always.

Yes or do it on a hot day with some dental floss and plenty of washing up liquid too. I took my ML badge off...very tidy :)

How about removing the model designation on the lower front wings?

Is this just stuck on or is it clipped in?

The side badging, I assume.

I'd have thought that would leave an empty recess though. My Vito came with that as standard ... looks very naff. You can order the badges as an accessory part (I did).

I decided to take some of the badges of mine this afternoon (instead of jet-washing the patio!) - but it seems that the laquer went on after the badges: leaving a 'shadow' in the laquer. I have t-cutted the area and polished it but the C220 is still visible :(
What is the best way to remove it??
Is their a varnish/laquer that can be applied and flattened down ??

Your help would be appreciated

Sounds to me like that panel has been re-sprayed with the badges masked off. If so there may also be a slight difference in paint shade to what was under the badges, I can't think of an easy fix - sorry!

I had a quick look earlier - there is no paint shade difference that i can determine

i might have been too - but that would mean admitting defeat and going backwards

not while i still draw breath

Better that than still being to read "C180" in faded paint.
C180 ??
There is no difference in paint other than the appearance thru the laquer :D
The tailgate was almost certainly re-painted at some point (explains the slight warping of the star) - but a friend of a friend can re-laquer it for about £70 so i shall continue .. . . . .:bannana:

Anyone know if stuck on mobile aerials come off as easily?
I've got a Vodaphone branded aerial on the roof that doesn't appear to be bolted on that I want rid of.

I would imagine that the mobile aerial will be stuck on with stronger sticky stuff than the little letters on the back...

The letters are not subject to any 'wind-force', unlike the aerial.

Where does the cable go? Are you sure it's not bolted through the bodywork?

I imagine there will be a hole through which the cable will connect. Not as simple as removing badges........

I've had a look underneath (its on the roof of an estate) and I can't see any sign of a bolt or wire.
I've seen exactly the same aerial used on the window of another car.
I suspect it was more of a status symbol in 2000 than a useful addition.
However it does seem to be very firmly stuck down :(

WD40 is quite good at dissolving glues. Keep spraying some of that around the base, gently prising with a blunt object!

Good luck!!
