230TE, but mum had a new 230TE in 1984 (W123), (not the same one) mines a W124
So a few weeks ago I decided to de-rust and respray the wiper arms on the headlights, so I took them out, they were rusty and blocked, so i cleaned them and left them in vinegar (as you do!) for the rust to dissolve, the next morning there was a lovely fizzing sound coming from the bucket with lots of small white bubbles. I thought: this is great, vinegar really works. so I cleaned and primed and painted. The following day, when it came to reconnecting them in there original position, the holes that sit on the the two wiper motor sticks are not made from metal so the holes no longer screw on!!
 
Thanks for that. I promise never to pickle any of the parts off my car in the future (or past for that matter)
