Dealer 'A' service for £136

Been quoted £136 inc vat for an 'A' Service and supplying my own oil for my 97 c280. I recall paying a lot more than this a few services a go, are delaer prices getting cheaper or my car getting older, therfore cheaper to service after the discounts???

That's pretty much what I paid for the A-service on my C32 last summer, including additional items, but supplying my own oil. Seems reasonable to me.

That was my thought exactly. An A service is an oil and filter change; you supply the oil - they provide a filter and change it. Anyone can do that - even dare I say it Kwik Fit - or a local garage for a lot less than £136.

how cheap can an oil change get? general garages round me charge at least a ton, so mercedes doing it with the right tools and stuff, doesn't seem to bad to me at 136 especially if they give it a wash & vac

To be fair to Mercedes, the A-service *might* only consist of an oil and filter change, but they're supposed to check a number of basic items also as part of this visit?

Firstly, for your reassurance and safety. Secondly, do you really think they'd miss out on an opportunity to advise you on some work that might need doing?

I guess, at £136 you should be expecting about an hour's worth of work - oil + filter replacement, some safety checks and possibly a valet as a 'thank you' and hope of satisfaction/repeat custom

There are some good argument for/against using main dealers - I guess increased resale value/saleability and Mobilo life cover would be a couple of notable benefits. Obviously, we all know that you're paying quite a premium though for these rather simple visits for routine jobs though.
