just bought a used 05 cls, car was advertised as having bluetooth, then after lots of trying to connect and picking brains i realise i have prewire kit with no b/tooth module in the armrest.
the car had been connecting to the previous owners phone as i could see on the screen his phones identity.
question is have i been conned? did the main dealer remove the module before i collected the car and should i demand it back?

Dealers swiped mats and gear selector from my car. There in the photos, gone when I picked it up!! :(

If it was advertised BY THE DEALER as having bluetooth (not just pre-wiring), then it should have it and it must work!! Make sure you have a copy of the advert, just in case. Dealer should sort it out, if not contact MB/Trading Standards/Solicitor/local press etc..

Hello & welcome. If it was specifically advertised as having Bluetooth I would certainly query it. However on new cars the cradle/BT module is an extra ... you don't get one with the phone pre-wiring option. So the previous owner may have kept the BT module if he bought another Merc., or may simply have eBayed it.

i'm onto the supplying dealer today, i know they must have swiped it, but it's taken a month to work it out as it's my 1st merc.
i'll post back how i get on, i'm not paying for the module if i don't have to.

Andy, on what screen can you see his phone's identity ? You get 'no telephone' if theres no telephone cradle (or no phone system), so if you're seeing a pairing, its not the phone system pairing for phone call purposes.

I suspect that you have a COMAND with the 'bluetooth in the COMAND for headset/address book' functionality (i.e technically it has bluetooth) but its not for phone calls, its bluetooth to sync the COMAND's address book and can be used for privacy mode to a headset when using the phone system - that function was discontinued in early 2006 on most as it just got confusing. I.e you have bluetooth, but not the bluetooth you thought you'd get.

You need a HFP cradle like this

or a SAP cradle like this

For bluetooth. HFP cradle pairs with most (inc iPhone and Blackberry), and downloads phonebooks on most newer phones (except latest Nokia N/E series). SAP cradle works much better with Nokia N/E series and uses car's antenna - but is limited to later Nokia phones.

Summary, dealer is being well cheeky to list Bluetooth

Hope that helps

i have the command control that tries to pair with my phone when i push the btooth button, it even knows i have a nokia 6300, when i am asked for a code i push four digits (1234 or 0000 etc)and the command screen says not connected(or something similar)that's as far as i get. in the armrest i have a plug like an ipod connector, i'm told i need a btooth module.

iv'e been onto the main dealer that supplied it and he says it was advertised as "btooth prep" not "btooth fitted" i can't check that as i don't have the ad anymore, bought the car a week before xmas, by the way it's an 05/55 car.
must admit i came from a bmw that had btooth factory fitted ready to go, none of the module required stuff:confused:

Yup,. thats the thing for phone contacts and privacy. You have to ignore that, and purchase cradle I noted earlier in this thread.

The HFP cradle works fine with the 6300, (although you may only get the default phone number for a contact) - the SAP cradle works
and uses car's antenna for calls = better reception.

BMW sorted bluetooth a long time before Mercedes .. since Motrola initially made them both that was very annoying

Cheers

I you type what you can remember of the ad into Google and when the results are displayed there is a option at the end of the link which says "Cashed" or similar pages, ckick on the cashed bit.(the pages are stored on the server somewhere)
I managed to find 3 previous ads for my last car just using the registration numer in google and the "cashed" link

Hope this helps.
