Hi all, I also have a problem with my 4-year-old Mercedes Jupiter red, the lacquer is peeling off the roof. I have since heard that Mercedes have stopped using Jupiter red?
Looking for advice.
Richard.

Welcome to the forum:thumb:

Jupiter Red/Fire Opal Red are both paints that have been problematic with many owners and Mercedes know about it.
Take a look at the many threads and solutions to get the paintwork resprayed FOC by Mercedes.

If you see lacquer peeling off a car in the UK it's invariably a red one. I wonder why this is?

Send an email to MBUK telling them you have a problem with your paint, they should tell you to contact your local dealer who will put you in touch with their MB approved bodyshop. Depending on how aware they are of the paint issues will dictate whether you get a respray or not. I was lucky as my paintshop were all over the paint issues & I had a full bare metal respray on my 12 plate C63 last November with MB picking up the bill. I should add my car was Fire Opal red and they do measure all paint thickness to ensure the paint is original, if it's not then they won't pay for that particular piece to be painted.

Washed the car on Thursday and found this on the roof of my 2018 glc. Between the windscreen and sun roof, extends for about 40cm across the whole front part if the roof Appears to be in the lacquer. Have tried to polish it with g4 and t-cut and not touched it. No other sites on the car have an issue, Anyone got any ideas, before I goto the dealer. It wasn't there to my knowledge when Merc washed it during the service a month ago

So this isn't covered, by any Merc warranty , minor damage cover or goodwill process. Dealer wants £600 to replace the plastic panels. Looks like getting it wrapped is the best option

Well I had something like this when a panel was sprayed and they used to much thinners the paint sort of splits in little stars and lines, but I a no expert.

Can i suggest taking the car to an independent garage that specialises in paintwork? That will need repainting and the indy ( if they know their stuff) should be able to tell you the cause. Could it be that the car may have been repaired previously?
My brother owns his own bodyshop, been repairing cars for 40 years and he could tell you the cause of any paint fault. Get someone like him and they will know.
