[edit 4/March
Offer has now ended - don't bother to read any further
----------------------------------
[edit 3/March - Dell have realised their mess up - the server is still a good price, but the free raid controller doesn't make it to the order confirmation anymore]
[edited 2/march - Dell have made this harder to find, so i've changed some of the urls and instructions]
Hi,
People seemed quite pleased when I posted the ultra cheap dell PC (£210) before Xmas - so I figure pointing this one out will be fine ..
I just ordered a new server for work, and found that not only was one of the existing servers extremely competitively priced, but due to website cockup, if you select certain things they sent me an order confirmation with a RAID controller (nomally £176+vat) included as-well.
This one is a server (I use one as a home PC, but its a bit noisy and doesnt support the power saving stuff that a home PC has) - and comes with no operating system (i.e stick Linux on it) and 3 Years next business day on site maintenance ..
- So I suspect it is for business not home use really -
This offer is due to end today or the 3rd (depending where you look)
Its the Pentium D (i.e Dual Core) 3.0Ghz, which is 2 pentium processors on one chip, with 1GB of RAM - I added a 2nd hard disk, and changed CD drive to DVD, and total is £570 inc vat and delivery.
BUT, the order confirmation just came through with a CERC SATA raid controller in there as-well - even though I didnt order one.
The way I ordered it is: -

But that link maybee too long for your cut and paste or for mbclub to recognise it as a url, so if that doesnt work properly, i've set up a page redirect at
http://www.almeida.org/dell1
Then do the following :-
Click on 'Customise and Buy SATA Server'
In 'RAID Connectivity" section click on "C1D Onboard SATA, 4 Hard Drives Connected to... add £0.00"
In '2nd Hard Disk" section click on "80GB 7,200rpm SATA hard drive [add £46.00 "
Click "continue"
In "CD/DVD drives" section click on "DVD-ROM ... add £10.00"
Then checkout and buy - its £435 + £50 shipping + VAT = just under £580
I can't guarantee your order confirmation will come through with the free RAID controller, but it worked for me - I assume it was selecting that C1D Onboard SATA, 4 Hard drive option" - as I didnt do that on my last system and it didnt get the SATA RAID controller
Hope thats useful to you
Cheers
Richard
