Just been given one of these, are they any good for using as a home pc , as a little toy as I have an iMac?

Noisy.

Big.

Power hungry.

Limited graphics.

Likely to be smaller 'sever grade' disk drives - possibly SCSI

Quite usable as the equivalent of an office desktop as long as it has a decent amount of memory - or as an experimental system (eg. with Linux). Not much good for gaming.

I looked at older servers to drive my home network for audio and video.

When you consider the power consumption, space and limited performance of older servers for what I anticipated to use it for, the newer type of NAS, such as QTECH, made the choice simple.

Nice to have - but only as a plaything to mess around on unless you need to run SQL or similar at home.
