Hi

I am in the process of setting up my own business and am looking to rent some desk space in Canary Wharf area.

Ideally, I would like to either rent a single desk or a one person office.

As many companies are down sizing, I am sure that there is some desk space going spare, just am struggling to find it.

I have found one in the main canary wharf tower, but it's double what I want to spend, so my search continues.

Many thanks

Tan

You will find that most companies that rent their office space will have a bar on subletting part, they would have to play fast and loose.

You probably need a specialist Serviced Office centre, similar to Regus. Regus are very expensive, but there are often similar options at much lest cost. Google is your friend. There are also a number of serviced office finders who get a commission from the provider. Worth trying one of these.

Ideally I don't want a serviced office as most of them them restrict who you can use for telecoms, which would hamper me as I will need to use the telecoms systems that will be part of my product range.

Plus I have spent the best side of the past 4 years supplying IT and Telecoms to the serviced office industry, so know the real costs.

When we were looking for office space a few years back, there is a massive range of stuff around for small businesses and price is very postcode and quality of fit-out senstitive.

Do you need to be in Canary Wharf or would somewhere nearby be suitable. I bet space in Mile End or Bethnal Green is a lot cheaper.

We looked at London bridge before settling in Crystal Palace but the postcode premium and commute cost didn't outweigh the space advantages and childcare friendliness of being close to home.

We currently have spare capacity if you are desperate although Woodford to SE19 is a bit of a schlep ;)

Tan - PM sent - what sort of IT and telco do you need to bring in?
