Detroit AUTO SHOW 2009: Mercedes-Benz E-Class Revealed

Reminds me of the pre-launcg W204 C-Class threads. I think it's fair to say it's grown on most of us by now. Just takes time to adjust.

It's interesting though that just like the W204 it's white that seems to suit it best. W210, W211, W203 all look dreadful in white (IMHO). The W204 and W212 look least dreadful in white!

Cars with soft rounded edges tend not to look good in white. Cars with a few creases and sharp are more conducive to white especially, and other light colours too.

Well I'm not most.

I'm now waiting for the adverts so that SniffPetrol can take the proverbial.

The interior is nice, especially the dials/speed area. How come the excess plastic though? I quite liked the black birds-eye maple thing they had going for a good while. Matte black plastic is a bit ..... basic, seeing as it has all that crazy technology in it.

It looks cheap.

If you didn't have the steering wheel and cruise control and somebody said it was a newly launched car I'd be thinking Insignia. MB wouldn't cross my mind.

Think of the target markets. The current S and CL look great in white too.

Arab countries buy a lot of white cars. South africans and Americans also. Only the UK associated white with cheap. You move to any hot country and white is the paint that people want on the car. The current CL is really nice in white and the facelift details on the CLS seem to help it look better in white also.

Making them look good in white will be good for worldwide sales.

You see white Es in Singapore used as taxis.

But apart from that? You hardly see any white cars.

In Malaysia you don't see *any* white MBs and again people just don't buy other makes in white.

I don't recall any association in this country with white as cheap.

Practicality dictates white is unpopular.
