I have just bought a merc. My mate tells me it has a Diamond Brite or similar finish. Its a 2004 but the bodywork looks showroom. Can any of the forum members well into detailing suggest how this finish should be maintained.

Thanks
Joe

Had this on my previous CLK ... Didn't do a thing to the car and washed the car maybe twice a year .... Loved this finish on it.... Like the man said above you really don't need to do anything to it... Had my car for 4 years so it seems pretty impenetrable... One of the extras I definitely would pay for from a dealer with a car ...

Gkinghorn,
nice to know - couldnt beleive my eyes when I went to see it prior to purchase - finish on the bodywork was amazing - not a chip or a swirl in sight. Looked showroom "new". I'll follow Jay's advice, I'm not exactly into detailing - more like a hosepipe and a chamois on a warm summers day - twice a year!!

Diamondbrite, Supaguard etc are all just sealants. Some work very well if applied properly. Just avoid harsh chemicals which are designed to strip all wax etc and wash regulalry as others have said.

A hosepipe and chamois approach will most likely cause swirls for you.

I would be quite surprised if the daimond brite lasted 4 years

Well be surprised.. It looked as good when I sold it as when I collected it...

It should be maintained with their car shampoo and once a month with their conserver. Easy as that

Quite surprised to see a thread being positive about Diamond Brite - all other times (on other car forums...not MB) it's been pretty negative and no one recommends it.
I've always steered clear - although must admit in theory it sounds great.
