Hi all, I've got a set of 17" 6 spoke diamond cut AMG wheels which are 2nd/3rd set for the car. They have some curb damage and scratches to the face.

Was considering refurb wise having them powder coated possibly in gunmetal or anthracite finish as cost of having diamond cut reinstated is obviously more plus these are not main wheels.

Has anybody had this done and any recommendations in the Merseyside/Lancashire area? What sort of money should I be looking at for making good and powder coating? No tyres on at present so can affect cost I believe.

Hoping powder coating will give more durability plus with going with a coloured finish a little different to the norm.

Going on a 2012 C250 Estate in silver, do you reckon anthracite or gunmetal? Too many matt and polished black wheels going around at the moment IMO, no offence to those that have them!

Had mine done in ellesmere port although their advert says its chester.
Wheel specialist chester.
Powder coated and very impressed with them.
They were offeringbsome very good deals pre christmas.

I had my 17 inch winter wheels stripped and powder coated at WRC in Bamber Bridge near Preston for £300 - finish is good and I know they do colours.

Also seen work by Rhino wheels near Southport who do multiple colours but they are a little more expensive.

Thanks!

Funnily enough work colleague put me onto Rhino and when I contacted them they are doing 4 wheels for £180 powder coated!

Not going to get any cheaper than that me thinks?!

Ellesmere Port would be doable as well as up the road from work.

Out of interest what colour finish would you go for? Iridium Silver Estate, I'm drawn to Anthracite but Gunmetal may work, would be these wheels...

I got mine powdercoated a few years ago,W209, (in Edinburgh - tho) they were originally diamond turned, but, Newlife Tyres did a great job as all 4 were very badly kerbed, (were like that when I bought the car)
Powdercating makes for very easy cleaning.
I would say around 50 quid per wheel would be the norm for this, whereas Diamond Turned 100 quid each !!
I have just bought an XJS that has diamond turned aerosport wheels, not kerbed or chipped but laquer has peeled of in places on each wheel, and I have contaced 4 different places re refurb, and all are £100 each. (Diamond Turned)

Well I took them in today, have gone for anthracite. It was a close call between that and gunmetal, but slightly lighter colouring will suit the car better I think/hope!

Should be ready for collection on Tuesday but will be Friday before I can pick up.

Will look to post pics for those interested and let you know what I make of the job from Rhino Alloys.

It makes sense but I hadn't appreciated that even though they are being painted up, can still take back to a diamond cut finish in future if I want.

May even just have the very front face of the spokes done and keep the anthracite background colour...

Not going to go mad and spend loads as these are not main wheels!

I think Anthracite will look good - our other car is a BMW with Ferric Grey wheels (similar to anthracite) and they look good. The deal you mention at Rhino is mega!:thumb:

Our C180 has just had 2 new Evolution alloys under warranty due to lacquer deterioration around the centre caps at 4500 miles - not at all sure of the longevity of MB diamond cut wheels!

Got them back at the weekend although they were ready from last Wednesday onwards.

To my untrained eye think they did a good job and I think the colour works, just not sure the car will look right on 17s...

Now to my new obsession, waiting on some GTechniq C5 to seal them...

I understand on the diamond cut, they now do a self etching clear, anyway I normally go for a wet finish rather than powder, but the last m3 wheels I had done were powder coated, and finish and durability seemed very good, so I will be switching to powder coating for future wheels. as the wet finish does not seem to stand up to stone chipping that well

I think they look great in that colour - they really compliment the silver of the car. :thumb:

Did you get them done at Rhino Wheels in the end?

Just thought I'd show you mine after having them done two years ago. After rears diamond cut got too chipped and pitted I decided to have full powder coat as the place were I had them done said even if I re cut them which id have done myself it's only going to chip again and cause same problem so full coat it was. I wanted shadow chrome but because the process uses more heat to cure they kept blistering were there cut! So after 3rd attempt we decided on this graphite color which now iam really pleased with. Hope you guys agree.

Yeah chaps at Rhino were great and at that price was criminal not to give them a go! Thanks for the nod Endex.

Streethawk that's a nice set up you have, looks really good!

I promised the Mrs I'd try and sell these as they are my 3rd set of wheels for the car but like them that much I'm not going to try that hard...

;-)

Great deal! If she does ramp up the pressure PM me! I'm looking for a set of 17s to fit the winter tyres I removed from our BMW to. ;)

Can't PM you Endex...have you posted enough threads?

Sorry, probably haven't - all my previous posts seem to have gone! I'll have to work out a method - or get posting like mad! My:fail
