I am happy to join this club.
Please forgive my poor English.

I have stayed in uk(near Wembly) from Jan 1999 to Dec 2000.
When I left uk, I brought my W124 230E (1990 made) from uk to Japan.
I could not leave it for attachment (whole uk trip from Skye aisel to St. I'ves).

Unfortunately, it had trouble in air condioner and blower motor sysytem.
The bower fan sounds whiii-iii accrding to its degree of rotation.
A mechanic challenged but could not take out the blower motor from
outside. He found the word DIAVIA on the motor......
The air conditioning system is completely different from Japanese version.
Some veteran mechanic insists not to touch retrofit Diavia system because it is not composed of regular parts but temporary parts and there is no drawing design, no parts in Japan. He added from experience that it may have great difficulty to convert this system to the genuine mercedes system.

I am to use this car further, so I have some question.

1. Are whole parts of Diavia for A/C still in dustribution in uk?
2. Were there pattern designs of system accrdind to the car ?
3 . Is it possiblity to exchange my system to up-dated system (if it exists,
very expensive?)
4. Experience of repair of retrofit A/C for mercedes in uk

I am happy if you let me know your advice about them .

car-aircon

DAVIA were an aftermarket AIRCON supplier. Their systems were frequently fitted as aftermarket kits to Mercedes. This company are agents in the UK. http://www.car-aircon.co.uk/ You should contact them directly by Email. Their contact details are on the site. They may be able to help. Best to describe exactly the faults/symptoms you have with your air conditioning unit. UNFORTUNATELY your car is quite old so the parts to repair it may no longer be available?? here's a pictorial guide how to replace the standard blower motor on a W124 if that's of help. http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/W124BlowerMotor

Thank you for your kind reply.
The mechanic (my friend) did attempt to take out the blower fan in this way illustrated in web page. He gave it up because it is firmly locked by several screws from inside of the body.

This type of system, the fan motor can only be removed from inside.

The dashboard will have to be taken out first. Then remove the blower unit and then the cover can be unscrewed.

If you need a motor I have one from a W124 that I had.

Would it be possible to DRILL/GRIND OUT these screws from the front? This would only be a practical proposition if the screw heads could be retrieved after the motor was removed? A bit drastic I know but maybe easier than removing the dash? Just a suggestion since I am not familiar with this setup unlike Mercedes Cosy who has been here before.;)

OK, no worries I can try and support you on this.

The problem is that when these kits were designed, you were not able to remove the motor from the outside.

Under the engine bay:
However, you can see all the screws etc, you can undo them from the outside but you can't take the cover off because the cover is larger than the whole in the bulk head.

That thats the reason for the dashboard coming out and then removing the whole blower box to take the blower motor out.

I'm in a similar position with my Diavia equipped W124, and can confirm the sage advice given above.

I have a water leak where water is coming past the bulkhead seal and onto the transmission tunnel. I can't get to the seal without stripping the dash out - growl!!

Thank you, grober.
I will directly send a mail.
This is a good news because most dealers In Japan believe that Diavia was gone. What I hope is that the price is not a bad news.
Best regard
