Hi all,

Love my 124, and would spend more time using it, however without A/C and the current temperatures it's just not a nice place to be at the moment.

I wondered does anyone know if A/C came as an option for the M111.940?

Am contemplating whether it is possible to retrofit A/C - can only guess it would be a PITA.

Thanks,

Adil

Yes it did.

Retrofitting requires a complete kit from a donor car, much is no longer available new, and is a big job, so yes, a PITA.

Thank you Charles,

That's a shame - the two noticeable missing options on my car are A/C and Cruise.

Then again, it would probably have much higher mileage if it did have them!

Have a great day - enjoy the weather :)

Air-conditioning specialists fabricate a custom system. There is a place near BrentCross that does this. When I was there I saw an old Merc which had a similar system done and it was excellent.
Let me know if you want details

All Mercedes Benz had the option of A/C, even the lowly 200 Carb. Retrofitting will require the HVAC box from an A/C car which will mean that you'll have to pull the dash out. Huge job and not worth it. Sell it and buy one with A/C unless you really like the car. I live in Texas and own a Euro 280TE with no A/C. The temps are in their 40's (28 degrees C is considered very pleasant here).

I've thought about retrofitting but it's a huge PITA so i prefer 4/40 cooling (4 windows down at 40 MPH).

A wet towel worn like a scarf can help too...

My late , Indian assembled W124 E250D had a/c and the e220 models also did ( think it was part of the spec for India ) .

I've seen lots of W124 cars with a/c so shouldn't be hard to find a donor car if you're keen , but retrofitting is a big job with some serious plumbing involved .

There are aftermarket kits too .

Hi all - thank you for your responses.

I will try to find out how much retrofitting a system will cost.

If I had a choice of the two (cruise/Air Con) it would be A/C that I'd prefer.

If not, the car is my happy place (after several close calls of being sold) so want avoid selling and buying another if possible.

All the Best,

Adil

Of course, you can wait until next week when you'll be needing the heater and this will all be a distant memory for the next 50 weeks.
