After watching a recent episode of Car SOS, I Google searched the registration of our old Mini Chelsea. To my surprise, I found it.

My wife was the original owner. The Mini Chelsea model commemorated the 5 Millionth production-run of the Mini. We were able to celebrate the Mini 40th Anniversary by driving around Silverstone alongside other Mini owners.

We reluctantly sold it following the birth of our daughter: it wasn't at all practical for carrying all the usual kit required in transporting young children.

Sadly, the picture that I discovered shows many missing/original features. I can only glean that the Mini has a SORN classification. I was not able to deduce where the car is presently located.

Has anyone else taken the time to search for a much-loved car that they once owned?

A previous BMW 330ci m sport I had I recently looked for

It has sold three times since, when I had it every option was ticked, had lovely 19" upgraded (BMW) alloys on it

So disappointed with the old advert pictures as it looked so abused, one advert had some aftermarket alloys on which had seen better days, bumper unaligned. The final advert it was on standard 17" SE alloys. The LCI lights had been replaced with standard items, the leather interior which was cream now looks like brown cracked dry skin. Such a shame

Others are either SORN but my old Impreza I see from time to time as some local lad purchased it

I have tried to find MUU 916P a lovely BMW 1502

I have been putting our personal plates on both our case for so long I cannot remember the original numbers to look them up.....
Would be interested to know where my C class coupe ended up - I would buy that back if in half decent nick for a run about

The chap who bought my Integra turned it into a very successful series racer - it changed hands last year but I don't know who to.

My Amazon was recently sold online by the guy who bought it from me. Looked abused and uncared for, he lost 40% of his purchase price in less than 2 years which speaks volumes.

I once had an Escort RS Turbo that got pinched.

I eventually got it back (long story) and so while I was travelling my dad sold it on my behalf to one of his pipe fitters.

I saw it probably 3 years after it was stolen and his pipe fitter from Basildon sadly gave it the full chav, Barry, Halfords and Baz-Vegas treatment.

Over 40 years ago I had a mini cooper s reg no SAC 608G which is still on the road now but it says it's blue when I had it it was off white with a black roof

SAC608G is a Blue/white 1968 Austin Mini Cooper S with a numberplate first registered in Warwickshire in 1968. This Unknown was first used on the road on Friday 6th September 1968.

Which sites are you checking out for previously owned cars?
There are a few of my old ones I wouldn't mind knowing about.

The simplest way is to see whether the car is showing up as taxed/sorned on the government site at: https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax For cars that are still on the database, you can check recent MoT details (including dates, mileage, advisories and so on) at the sister site: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

Wouldn't take the info on there as gospel, when private plates are added to the mix the data goes upside down

Well, I think we can take the information on there as official. It's the information that's NOT on there that causes problems ;)

Personalised number plates certainly break the trail, and I don't know how to track a car if its registration number changed (or if the vehicle to which it was attached changed).

No really, I don't think they made C63's in the 90's with 200,000 on the clock and numerous failed MOT's, lol. That was the worst one, it's generally good information but I'll only ever use to see if something's taxed otherwise there's no point

In the late 90s a workmate needed to get rid of an old car and I bought it for, I think, £200 as a second car. It was an Austin 1300 GT, blue with black vinyl roof, reliable and fun to drive. No road tax either and £60 classic car insurance. I ran out of space and let it go a year later. Such a shame, I loved that car. Can't remember the number plate though. It looked exactly like this white model which sold for circa £8k recently!

Resurrection of an old thread.
Checked today my old cars and was surprised to see that most are either SORN or not MOTed for some time.
Red S124 G plates last MOT 2011 :(
Green S124 M plates still going strong with valid MOT till 2020 with no advisories :D This one was bought by 124 enthusiast so not surprised to see it still running with 160k miles.
Tanzanite W210 51 plates last MOT 2017 with only 70k miles :( This one served me so well and never missed the beat so seeing it gone is a surprise.
Silver W215 02 plates last MOT 2016 :( Can think of many reasons why this one is not showing up any more.
Tanzanite W211 03 plates has private ones now and can't see what going on with it.
Audi A6 C5 53 plates valid MOT  I hated this car so much, I can't believe it's still running. One of the, if not the, ..... car I ever owned.

My 30 year old 190e is still on the road and passed it's last MOT but not before two pretty horrendous failures on structural corrosion since I sold it over 4 years ago. Which is why I traded in of course, I knew it would soon need extensive and difficult welding far beyond my skills. Nice to think it's still going though as I owned it foe 21 years.
