My new 88 W124 300D 5 speed manual has been sitting for most of the past 12 months and I just acquired it and completed 200 miles with a full fuel fileter(s) change and clean up. The hesitation in the beginning is much improved, so is initial starting, however I was wondering if anyone has a solution, assuming there appears to be no leaks. No smoke at all, except minor black smoke on initial start and idles perfectly. Zings around to the max in each gear as well, but hesitation at light throttle at lowish speeds, expecially in second, although it si improving each day. Should I use a diesel injector cleaning additive to the fuel? if so which one? Finally, anyone know why the tachometer is not working? i would like to get it sorted, any help greatly appreciated.

CAL.

i got two bottles of (FREE!! :D ) injector cleaner from george fraser in west london - ok - for a petrol - but his suggestion was to run the tank almost dry, (like 1/8th tank) then chuck in the cleaner, thne run the tank as dry as you dare, then re fill... so the cleaner was at maximum concentration.

makes sense to me.
tacho - dunno - but this might help

Fortron Diesel System Additive

MB Coventry use some MB Approved stuff called "Fortron Diesel System Additive" you could give them a ring for more details 024 7651 8130. Costs about £10 it made a massive difference to my vehicle when they put some in after the last service. MPG jumped.

There is a thread on my experiences somewhere.
