There is a leak of oil from the joint between the injection pump and the engine on my w123 diesel. I assume this is the gasket that needs replacement.
Do I have to remove the pump and put a new gasket in or can it be eased out a bit and the joint redone with jointing compound?
If I have to remove the pump, how do I ensure that I don't mess up the timing? Is it simply a question of making and alignment mark between the engine and the pump or is is already aligned since it is bolted in place? Or is alignment not an issue?
I would get a garage to do it possibly but they need the car for a whole day and this seems a bit excessive. Can I do it myself?
