Just changed the return pipes - What a bloody job that was.
Had to remove the air intake manifold plus a bloody plastic cover before I could get at them. When I saw what was under the plastic cover I thought sod it I'm buying a horse.
Each of the six Injector rebates was full with diesel and gunk. As soon as I touched the first pipe it broke like a twig as did the rest of them leaving a small bit around the nipples which was a swine to get off X12.
Anyway after a lot of effing and blinding I got it done, used half a can of break cleaner so at last I could see some metal under the crud, then blew it all out with a high pressure air hose, catching most of the blowback in my face into the bargain.
Break cleaner stings the eyes, I looked like a bloody miner when I was finished. If I had a cat I would kick it up and down the drive. But I don't so I'm venting my %&**% here. (cos you know the feeling - don't you)
I reckon that little exercise shortened my life by about 10 years but it should increase my MPG by about 10!!!!!!!.
So If you've got them check em before it's too late. They will start bleeding diesel all over the place. The pipe costs about £7.50 a meter from MB, 2 meters is plenty - 1 is not enough
Fuel filters next - oh yippee I can't wait

Thanks for listening
PS Can I borrow your cat

Cheers

Calm down now and have a beer.;)

Then give the refurbished motor a run out tomorrow, you will feel better.

I've been giving IBW a hand working on a 606.910 like yours and we had fun with the fuel return hoses as well. They weren't brittle but the braid tore and the rubber snapped on all six when we tried to pull them off the injectors.

We also found that the cylinder head cover vent pipework was all very brittle.

I went round to my mums, she made me my dinner, good un is ar lass, a real calming influence.
She then asked me what the red blotches are on my face:mad:

Erm you do know that brake cleaner is highly toxic don't you......

I think you're right, the beer Brian recommended tasted like crap but I'm absolutely flying at the moment - think I'll try that again:)

What is all that black pipework, I thought it could have been some kind of emissions return system - to burn it again. The saucer shaped thingy looked like it could be a filter? That's what threw me

Good fun though init :D

cheers

Ok I gotta ask - what does it do

I'm guessing it allows oil vapour to breathe out of the engine under crankcase pressure as opposed to being sucked out by depression in the inlet tract, more useful for the turbocharged models I'd imagine.

This is just a guess!
