Following on from my other threads on changing the Volvo, yesterday I was talking to Brabus and exploring the idea of modding a 250 cdi to give out some serious kick ass horsepower. They reckon they could get me a E class coupé into the high 270's BHP comfortably and maybe even 290+ BHP with a serious Increase in torque, by changing the induction system and a few other strategic mods. This is also attractive financially (Well compared to buying a E500) so worth a thought.

My question is does anyone have experience of the other MB tuners work on diesels, Carlsson, Loriniser, Kleeman etc... or experiences of MB performance diesels in general?

As always all comments most welcome

Cheers
Ian

They have made it for ya

Brabus - Cars for Sale - BRABUS D4 - C 250 CDI

Vroom vroom....

We did talk about the D cars but the C class is just too small for me and it's only 30 bhp up on standard as the only performance mod is the fitting of a Brabus Tuning box.

I am talking about the E class coupe to which Brabus will fit springs, exhaust and a few other subtle touches, but they will completely replace the turbo's headers, re route airflow different airbox and remap the ECU which should give it 50 bhp more than their D car at least. :)

Just pondering all my options at the moment, you know me I like to do my homework well in advance :thumb:

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy the 350CDI and fit a Brabus chip?

Yes it would but I should have said I want a manual gearbox and the 250 cdi is the most powerful base unit fitted with a 6 speed manual box sorry :o

Out of interest what's stopping you starting with the E350CDI? It looks to have similar power to the tuned 250 you mention. I imagine the 250 upgrade costs would be greater than the extra purchase price of the 350?

edit: sorry typed this same time as Simon.

Will the manual take such a hike in power.

Even a 250cdi with a normal D4 box is going to be effing fast, more power than mine and less mass. E coupe based on a 204. Lovely things to drive, driven the E500coupe. Even a normal D4 E250cdi will be faster than your CLK....

I would fear for a diesel making 130bhp/litre though, are injectors etc up to it?

Brabus reckon so it will take around 290 bhp & up to 680 Nm. Not sure it would be faster than my CLK now with all the mods, more torque for sure but I think BHP & acceleration will be pretty similar.

If you buy I am calling shot gun for a passenger run....

Remember, its a much more areodynamic car, the most areodynamic on sale. It will be faster.

0.24cd a slippery little sucker :D If I go this route you don't need to call shot gun for a passenger ride, you can have the keys and have a shot.

Another contender is still the BMW 530d or 535d but I must admit the F10 doesn't have the class or appeal of MB :thumb:

Nice one mate :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

F10 does not get as a good a press review as the 212. 212 is exceptional, looking back I miss it.

535d auto only. I'd say your better off with a 335d, must be able to get 370-400bhp out of that sucker.

A 335d I would actually probably buy, out of all the BMs its the one that appeals the most.

I agree the 335d would be the best performer but it's just too small for me to be practical, had a look at the 335d tourer and it's even smaller than the Volvo and to be honest we struggle with the size of the Volvo, in hindsight I should have bought something bigger:)

I did try a 335D. Lovely engine - really quite wonderful. But the car is tiny !!

On the E Coupe - check the rear leg room, it's not as much as you might think...

Fair do, I am toying whenever I change with a smaller car but a wagon. But like a C class or 3 series. But then its just me....

If its to be a 3er, its being a 335d msport minus RFTs. Probably go for a C though because I drove one and LOVED it. I sense camping trips and foldy down seats ideal to house tents, the grand daddy BBQ and enough beer to sink a ship!!!

I driven the new 212 twice one 220CDi and a 250CDi for 48hrs and hated it, didnt really like it, prefered my 211.

35D after remap 340bhp - 360bhp max, 35i maybe 370+.

The seating position is better in the 211, lower and sportier feeling. The seats in the 212 are not as supportive and as they are set too high, the wheel blocks the view of the instruments, and ones legs are not so well supported.

Steering is more precise in the 212, less slack in it but in my view too light. Ride and handling, looking back its such a proficient car that it masks speed incredibly well and is travelling at a rate of knots when you think otherwise. I'd say a nice car to drive, and nicer to own.

Interior, night and day better than the 211 otherwise.

Just with remap, mod exhaust, air intakes, upgrade injectors and 400bhp on the cards.
