diesel tuning boxes - thoughts?

Is that because the 250 is just a 220 already factory tuned.

Yes... and if we do a benchmark.. the remapped BMW 25d Fxx ( 4 cylinder biturbo) are going from 215hp to 265hp with no problems, apparently ... The 250cdi have indeed a tight tolerance band for increase of power... Just see gains from 200hp to 225hp... It is few compared with the 50hp of gains in the BMW...

I bit the bullet and invested in the Brabus D6 for my ML. I had previously got annoyed at a certain big hill in Belgium slowing me to a crawl with my loaded car trailer on the back. I kid you not, I was being passed by HGVs!!
I put up with this for two trips before going for the Brabus. I looked at the other options, but talk of limp mode and uncertain engine longevity swayed me to the dearer option. Of course, it has been fine. Towing is where the biggest difference is apparent, and she'll pull a higher gear up a given incline than before. Towing economy improved from 23mpg to 27mpg on some long hauls, mainly through lower engine rpm's in the higher gear, which paid for the unit very quickly.

I know this is a super old thread, but I’m just trying to find more information on these and came across it when searching for tuning boxes. Just wondering if there is anything new out there since the OP? Or can anyone recommend a box that they’ve had experience with? I’m struggling to get quoted on a remap, as most are telling me that the ECU is locked. On the other hand I still have 5 years warranty, so not too sure I want to start messing with the ECU in that way. So I’m thinking of a tuning box, but want to make sure it’s from a reliable source.

Ive used TDI-Tuning's gear on a few cars.....only ever had one issue and they sorted that within a couple of days. Just ignore anyone claiming vastly better mpg.....It might say so on the dash.....but it makes no measurable difference in reality.....at least not on any of the cars I fitted it too. Of course use any of that lovely extra power and the MPG can only get worse!!

Like post #2, I had one on my Rover 75, a Synergy from RoverRon, excellent, it did what it said it would, with no problems.

So I then fitted one - NOT from RoverRon - to my Volvo D3 C70, and it caused all sorts of limp mode problems, it turned the car into a money pit, unfortunately.

I’m not into diesels now, so it doesn’t apply, but if I was, I wouldn’t fit one.

Two pages in an no one has mentioned "telling the insurance"!!!....well done all!!

Had one fitted years ago on a w164 made a difference and never had a problem with it

Things have changed significantly since.

I had a box from RoverRon years ago which was good (tried to link but can't seem to find him now). More recently on newer cars have had them from Bluespark, which have also been good.

Lots of people slate tuning boxes, but I think a lot of it comes from people buying £5 tat off eBay for their $50k car and being surprised that it doesn't work amazingly.

Go for something decent and you'll likely see good results.

My recently fitted ' race chip ' is doing a great job. 😁
