My 2018 C63 did need a diff oil change at 1000 miles and it was done free by Mercedes in Milton Keynes.

Had the same query with my previous 2017 C63.

The car did not have a sticker but as the Internet was insistent that the oil needed changing plus the manual suggests it also, so I contacted MB Customer Services who passed the query to the AMG techs who advised it was not needed.

Some months later there was further web chat that the LSD oil needs changing as the Internet knows best so I contacted MB again to ask for further clarification, their response is below.

My current car does have the LSD oil change sticker this time so it will have it done.

Mercedes-Benz Model: C-Class AMG C 63 S

Thank you for contacting Mercedes-Benz Customer Service.

Even though vehicles bear the same name of model, they often don't share the same technical equipment or components. It depends on what kind of differential was fitted in the factory, whether or not it is advised to change the oil for it. Our technical department checked your vehicle's specifications and found that your specific rear axle differential does not necessarily need an oil change.

It will need an oil change but maybe not so soon in regards to the type of rear diff that was fitted. As all new mechanical components do wear at a higher rate initially hence the initial oil change required so soon.

But if MB say that it’s not required for your specific rear diff then you may just have to take their word for it. As possibility the type of rear diff you have may be a different design and/or composed of different metallurgy/heat treatment compared to the other one. You can always try and find out what is the recommended intervals then for the specific rear diff you have fitted and see what they say.

Does not necessarily? Translates to yes, but we don't want to have to pay for it

Haha yeah I did initial think twice when I read that as well...

Hi very interested in this. Mine is on 1300 and was told it was at 1800 miles. But it did have to be changed. So will be booking it in end of next week. I’ve taken the maintenance package so no charge

This was the reply after the second time of asking, the original reply below, the problem is that the Internet MB experts insist on having better knowledge so it doesn't matter what MB say on the subject.

Thank you for contacting Mercedes-Benz Customer Service today, as per our conversation, I enquired further to the potential differential oil change on your car. I can confirm that our Technical Specialists explained this is not a requirement for your car so this therefore does not need to be completed.

(1) MB service system says no
(2) AMG techs say no
(3) No sticker advising oil change
(4) Internet experts say yes

Therefore it is yes.

But I’ve got the sticker on my windscreen saying that I need the diff oil change and also running in. So are they both crap?

No, if you have a sticker it needs doing and the dealer should/can't argue it doesn't need it.

The confusion arises that not all cars have the sticker and the dealers are aware of this so will challenge it rather than just do it, it was the first thing they asked me when I tried to book it in at the time.

My 2017 car did NOT have the sticker but the Internet insisted it needed doing as it knows best, I checked twice with MB and the answer came back as no.

All the owners querying the diff oil change are the ones who do not have a sticker unless I have misread any messages.

I changed my own as there was so much conflicting advice about, especially over who was paying for it.

I figured that it potentially needed it but no-one wanted to pay for it so I just decided to do it anyway for the sake of 20 minutes work and <£40.

Right. May as well update this thread.

I collected my car yesterday and discussed this issue at length and the inconsistent information AMONGST UK dealers.

My dealer said the service schedule for the 205 has the diff oil option "deleted", however he said as a customer, if you wish to have it we will honour it and do it FOC as the information is inconsistent and sticker still says do it.

Posted below is the new service schedule they sent me with the "modification note" at the top.

I will still get mine done!

It’s a strange why MB are so inconsistent. I didn’t have a sticker and when I asked my dealership I was told It didn’t need it changing, which I took there word for it and made no effort to challenge this. Then I got an email from AMG saying It needed a change after 2000 miles and would be done FOC at the dealer.

After my experience of being told wrongly, I wouldn’t trust what the dealer says . I would ring/email the the tech dept myself. If they agree with the dealer then as Daveenty says for piece of mind I would pay to have it done myself, it’s peanuts compared to what these cars cost to run.

So after contacting MBUK, about other issues they answered the question as a side via email with the AMG case manager as follows.

I am not trying to cause confusion, but just highlighting my correspondence with the community.

Again, i will still moat likely have it changed anyway if it has been offered to me FOC

Got a very similar reply as below:

To answer your enquiry, I have confirmed with our Mercedes-Benz Technical Team and they have confirmed that your car will not need the differential oil changed after the first 1000 miles. This has been a recent decision made by AMG to have this removed from the service sheet as it’s not required. It was the case for some previous models, which is why you may have heard this from other sources.

Yes 1850 is on the sticker. I’ve contacted Dorchester MB and they have said yes that I will have it done. I’m on 1300 at mo so will book in in a couple of weeks

Hearing conflicting info re diff oil change at 1k miles and whether it’s free or not.

Anyone got experience/knowledge to share please?

Had mine done (e63s) at 1900 miles free of charge last month at Mercedes Northampton.
