Mazda make a big thing of this in the UK. Its where there is no "service book" to be stamped as such, but a car's individual service record is kept as a digital record by the manufacturer's dealership. Printouts can be accessed but not altered by the owner and is designed to prevent counterfeit service records. e.g. Mazda - Digital Service Record
It does however restrict who can "officially" service the car since only Mazda have access to the system.
Mercedes have kept digital service records of individual car's Mercedes service history for some time although its sometimes difficult to access these if you are not the owner but say a prospective buyer.
You can still ask that they also do it the old fashioned way with a book and stamp...
The electronic side is more to help them keep a better track (globally) of what has and hasnt been done.
i don't see the point of what they do with the electronic one..
They give you a print out of what was done and that goes into a sleeve at the front of the service book ... why? Just have a flaming book that gets stamped and keep an electronic record of it..
