my battery light has started to glow slightly, is this a sign that the alternator is on its way out or maybe something else? ive checked the voltage and its running just over 11volts on tick over but doesnt go higher when revving. the car is a c220, n reg. any help would be greatly apriciated

This is usually a sign that diodes in the alternator have failed. It could just be a faulty connection to the ignition warning light, but your voltage check suggests otherwise.

It means the rectifier pack is failing on one or more diodes. Just get a new rectifier and a regulator, no need to change the whole alternator.

is the reulator sat behind the plastic cover on the alternator as i cannot see 1?

this is the exact one

does this mean the alternator has to come off then and be sent away to be repaired or the regulator can be taken off as it is, if there is one?

You need to remove the alternator. Then remove the plastic cover on the rear and remove the regulator. This also holds the brushes. See the attached pictures.

The diode pack will be the other electrical unit opposite the regulator and brush pack.

Probably worth replacing both at the same time.
