Disappointed with my car. Respect to the 335d!

E63s
I have a 2014 C63 saloon with the Eurocharged V5 map.

Was minding my own business the other day driving down a certain toll motorway. Having paid at the booth I thought I'd see what my car could do acceleration wise so as I exited I floored it.

Coincidentally, next to me a young lad in his 2008 E92 BMW 335d had the same idea and was out of the toll booth just before me. I'm not a boy racer, being well into my forties, but I thought there's clear motorway ahead, I'll teach the young whippersnapper a lesson. Wrong!
The bloody BMW just kept going and going and I couldn't gain on him. We got to what for me is a stupid speed and my car was just keeping up. Eventually, we both saw sense and backed off and as I went past him I couldn't help give him a thumbs up (I'm sure he let me pass so he could have a laugh at me!)

The thing is, and I know it's childish, it's been bugging me all week and made me feel differently about my car; disappointed with it. I know the BMW 3.0 twin turbo is formidable (I had one in my 640d) but I didn't think it would be more than a match for a re-mapped 6.2 V8. Do you guys think there may be something wrong with my car or the BMW was perhaps modified? I'd be interested to read your opinions.

My other car is a Mitsi Evo 10, and as i was driving along minding my own business someone flashed at me from behind to get out of the way. In my rear view mirror i could see an Astra VXR so i thought id teach him a bit of a lesson, so i did.

I eventually let him go past but then realised he had done the same thing with a 2008 BMW M3 further up ahead. The M3 didnt move out of the way which gave me a chance to catch up again. After we had gone around a bend onto some open road all 3 of us opened up, the Astra put up a good fight but was left behind, but i couldnt really catch up with the M3. I could keep up with him, but not get past or even level with him, he maintained the same distance under heavy acceleration. And not once or twice, but time and time again for about 10 miles.

Eventually he indicated to pull off, and as i went past him i nearly had a heart attack to see the badge on the back of his car . . . . . 335d !!!!

I know both the Astra and the BMW were not standard, but i was so mightly impressed by the 335d that i have always wanted one ever since. More than impressed, i was shocked and taken aback.

So if it makes you feel any better, its not that your car is slow . . . . . . its that the 335d has sooo much torque that a tuned one is nearly impossible to catch.

Just like me, you'll more than likely be feeling suicidal for the next few days but then you'll get over it. Dont worry too much.

Just enjoy the acceleration and enjoy the car. No point worrying about other cars out on the road. There are many that can outperform you point to point.

My tuned and chipped 951 showed a clean pair of heels to a C63 and left him for dust over a long series of bends and straits. But on a strait piece of road I'm sure he would have dusted me.

As above, the 335d was probably mapped. And as said above, they are quick. I wouldn't let it bother you (easier said than done I know). :)

I'd commit suicide if that happened to me !!!
Just saying...
:ban:

theres allways going to be faster cars out there and some at a fraction of the cost...its impossible to have the best and fastest car just it is cwhat it is....however ime hoping my stage 2 weistec c63 wont be shown up too often when finished

however checking stats u shd have initially had the jump on him 0-60 according to offficial figures tbh whats the point of racing someone over the 80mph mark i love my car for the sound and the way it pins me back when i hit the pedal not to prove to anyone else

I agree that there is not a car out there that will tick every box. The sound of the C63 is unmatched, it's quick and let's everyone know it is with the nasty growl when your on the lound pedal. However, I'm lucky enough to have talked the Mrs into a 335d touring and have to admit that I get more satisfaction from seeing people's faces in rear view mirror when they realise they've just been passed by an "oil burner", in away people expect to be passed by the evil sounding Mercedes thing with four exhausts. So for me at the moment as an alrounder the 335's keys are ones I pick up first. Hopefully that will soon change as I'm going to follow gasman and a few others and get the stage 2 fitted to the C63.

I couldn't catch a VW caddy last week lol......saying that I could hear the turbo and the flames out of the twin exhaust on the back made me think it may have had a little work done.......
Still know which one I would prefer......unless I was taking garden rubbish to the tip.

BTW I had a 330d which was mapped to 300bhp and the acceleration was insane

Every other car on the road is a diesel BMW...be proud of your individualism! C63 is a far cooler machine...

35d remapped is dam quick. My friend has one and yes on the move unless you're in front , really hard to get past. 330 Bhp 550+ torque plenty of power but gets obliterated to dust by the E63 which you would expect.
Remember if you were in front, you would actually disappear.

This makes me smile, but having owned a C63 and now a 335D - I know which driver was enjoying the better noise...

I own both, 335d mapped to 340hp 600lb torq and my C63 520hp 530lb torq, my c63 is defo faster.

The one on toll road you were up against must had bigger hybrid turbos etc, they make big power and especially high torque. :D

Yes I would add that my F31 335D is quick off the mark but once you get towards triple figures it would not keep up with a C63 without some modifications.

Id say something was wrong with ya Merc. Isnt a Remapped C63 about 520bhp on average? Unless the beemer had some serious mods on it, it should be a spec in ya mirror.

I still miss my 740d I had before the E63. The E63 might be fast but the 7 was much better at everything else plus it wasn't a slouch either.

I should've just remapped it and kept it.

Damn the AMG bug

Huge torque with a diesel though.

The 3.0 V6 diesel and 3.7 V6 petrol versions of the Vito and Viano have exactly the same 0-62 time, despite the petrol engine being bigger and having approx. 30 bhp more. But the diesel has 100 Nm more torque.
