I would certainly be trying.

There are many many factors which will influence the dealers willingness to do a deal on a particular car, and it might be different for two cars sat side by side on the forecourt. How long they’ve had the car, how much it cost them, what remedial work needs to be done and therefore factored into their costs, how much they need the space, how they are to their target, how keen they are to sell you a brand new car instead, how keen you are, whether others have expressed an interest, whether you’ll take dealer finance, what finance rate you are prepared to accept, etc.

If I’m buying a secondhand car from a dealer I ask questions to try and find out some of this information, say things to test their reaction, as it can help me later when negotiating. Strange how many people open up when you ask questions and show an interest in their business.

Some amazing deals on new E classes, worth checking a 5 month old one would actually save you money.

Do you have a link to the car or can you provide the spec and price?

Have you looked at how it’s priced against other dealerships?

There is always some movement from eg set of floor mats to eg £100s/1000 off of the price at franchised dealers.

In your shoes - would be looking at the price of a new car at different dealer network, to establish if the "preowned" car is really value for money, given the incentives on new cars coming into Q4.

Price of one car vs another of the similar specification is subjective eg would you pay £100s more for a particular colour or because it had the alloy wheels you really liked.

Lastly, show interest but not to the point that the salesperson knows "it is a done deal". Difficult if you do not negotiate regularly.

DriveTheDeal has new E220 SE PP’s with no options for £ 32k. With metallic & comfort pack £ 34k.
Potential problem though is Merc delivery times on E Classes seem to be far too long so you’ll need to check that (not with the dealer you are currently negotiating with !). I have bought 6 New Merc’s previously but this time had to go to BMW as delivery on a E300e was going to be at least 8 months. My current E350e took 10 months.
My 530e is being delivered in just over 2 weeks which is only 10 weeks - it has £ 10k of options which normally delays delivery with MB.
The discount on the 530e was similar to the Merc one - about £ 10k so a £ 63k car for £ 53k.

The E-Class coupe is a great car because it is in fact based on the smaller C-Class, so you get the agility of the smaller car packaged with E-Class-level luxury and options :thumb:

They may not haggle much on almost new second hand cars as their might be mite interested in you getting a new car.

I’m my personal experience every time I’ve looked at a sub new car, I’ve ended up buying new as it was a no brainier each time.

Well used taxi?

I personally wouldn't buy a new car I think getting a 12 month old car can save you a good amount of money personally

I’d plug it into Drivethedeal or Carwow and see the proper discounted new price. Then take off about 25% for the use/miles. It’s hard to be brutal when you really like a car but the reality is anything you overpay now will just make you feel even worse than usual come trade-in time!

While that was true of the previous E class convertible / coupe, I don’t think it is of the current one. That’s based on the E class but, I think, with a shorter wheelbase.

Might be worth agreeing their finance...get big discount...then settle the finance
Many thanks Ioweddie really good advice I took the finance deal [even tho i had the cash ] but finance got me 1K off the car and a extra years full MB warranty it also being ceramic coated and was advised to pay all but a few hundred quid off finance 30 days later excellent advice

Try Drive the Deal or Carwow, some cracking deals on new cars

Post some pictures when you have it.
