Dishonest Garage? Or they might be right...?

How much would cost to transport the car to Nuneaton? Maybe Jay can arrange recovery.
I'll contact Jay if I finally decide to keep the car and the current garage can't give a satisfactory solution:) Thanks for comment!

Stick your reg + DETAILS in here

That’s awful, says mines only worth £10000, I paid £17000 for it 2 years ago.
Dude thats how the "depreciation" kicks in:) But I think if you maintain your car well you can sell with a good price (definitely higher than £10k) privately.

Go on then, put yours in. Dare you :D

Update: Attempted to speak to someone on-sinte yesterday but again call forwarded to 3rd call centre and got no response. So drop them a message via email and yet to receive my testing report. Tbh I'm getting bit annoyed with them now😥

Only one thing to do....:

Take it elsewhere.

I have previously had AA Garage cover, wasn't a great experience. The car was towed to Mercland (failed electroplate) and the AA tried their hardest to prove the fault was pre-existing (which it wasn't). After lots of arguments and involvement from the Ombudsman, I got them to pay for the repair and some compensation. The extra you have paid on your AA premium should give you peace of mind. Instead, you are looking at a £1800+ bill for a garage to guess what the actual fault it.

You have an issue now that they will not tow the car to another garage for the same fault however it should still work out cheaper than what you are being quoted. I would give Mercland a call. If the car isn't driveable, I'm sure they can tow it for a reasonable fee. At least the car will be repaired by someone who knows these cars.

Other options are Andy Gayle in Birmingham

Before I get slaughtered (I am not a lover of main dealers) for problems that are hard to diagnose, its often better to go to the main dealer rather than some one who is learning on the job, so to speak. They often try/replace things that do not need done. They may eventually get there, but you are paying for their education.
As has been said before hindsight is a great thing.

There's very few people in dealers of all marques who know what they're doing - they're mostly young lads and, as alluded by the OP, the garage is following a repair path guided by Mercedes and that's exactly what dealers do.

You see comments from indies that dealers send problem cars to them to sort out.

Have you had a "Star" diagnoses ? Extremely accurate. Well worth stumping up to have it carried to a known good independent, from what you've said I wouldn't trust them as far as I can spit ! Don't dump it ! Poor batteries can cause endless trouble, just an example of where they could be wrong. Depressing, but please don't give up !

Thanks for your cheering up message! Unfortunately I dont have any diagnosis tools at home... I don't even have chance to have it diagnosed by other garages since the issue arise too sudden. Now the dilemma is that they "strip my car apart" and AA wouldn't tow my car to another garage for the same fault, and also there isnt any good independent Merc specialist in the vicinity (Mercland is quite far away from the garage, but I think I'll have to have a go if the garage still tell me nothing valuable next Monday). I have replaced both main and auxiliary battery at Halfords few months ago, so I think its unlikely to be caused by them.

UPDATE (2 WEEKS AFTER THE FIRST VISIT): They drop me two messages today saying that they couldn't find anything from the fuel sample yet and suggest to leave over a weekend to let the fuel sample settled. The dilemma now is that they "strip my car apart" and AA wouldn't tow my car to another garage for the same fault, and also there isnt any good independent Merc specialist in the vicinity (Mercland is quite far away from the garage, but I think I'll have to have a go if the garage still tell me nothing valuable next Monday). But... If I send the car to Mercland, do Mercland still need to repeat those tests conducted by the previous garage...? If thats the case I will then need to pay twice for the hefty testing surcharges:((((

And also, do you think they are really doing the correct things (i.e. following right procedures and doing the right tests)? This is really confused me as I don't quite understand what they are doing now. They're yet to provide me the requested testing report and the only way to communicate with them is send messages (because they don't call back). NO decency at all!

How difficult is it for them to strain the fuel through some filter paper. As I said on a previous post, they are learning on the job. By the time they send the fuel pump for testing the costs involved would probably pay for a new one. Any garage who will not talk to you does not deserve your custom. Never mind the AA, find someone who knows these cars & get it uplifted to them. Personally speaking, I would be down there, no texts, emails, speaking to call centres or carrier pigeon. Christ, I'm getting angry & its not my car. Get involved

They seem to be incompetent, and the spelling and grammar are not a great sign of their ability.
It's very unfortunate that you don't totally understand what they are doing, which is a very good reason for you to choose the garage to fix it, rather than letting the AA or anyone else decide this for you.
You should go visit them, talk to them and then decide if it is worth letting them to continue.
I think you have given them more time than they deserve, I would be very angry that they won't call you or answer when you phone them.

I wasn't able to get there personally because I'm currently away from home. Will return home this weekend. Yes you're absolutely right! I'll straight down there next Monday. If they can't give any satisfactory response then I'll ask someone to tow my car away to another competent garage immediately!

Surely removing the fuel filter and inspecting it would give a good preliminary indication as to it's condition?

It should be, but it seems that they'll insist to send it to others for testing. Testing cost is unknown but definitely not cheap.
