Car
VW Golf, past c200cdi
I have no instruments, warning lights, cruise, hold function etc but car drives well otherwise.
The dealer has diagnosed a new cluster is needed which is on order.

Car is W204 2011 and covered 48000 miles.

Anyone else had this happen?

It sounds like my issue which also needed a new cluster.http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/201431-help.html

Just had a call from the dealer today to say the car is ready to pick up.

£1000 for the cluster + 500 labour to replace OUCH!

I did however manage to get a 50% contribution from MB UK.

My car is also a W204 2011 with 50K miles.

That's similar yes. I have been advised that MB will make a 50% contribution as its a premature failure, and have been quoted about £700. Ouch as you say!!!

Mine went in on Wednesday and I was advised it would take about 5-7 days as the cluster has to be ordered from Germany and coded to the car.

Sounds about right. I had mine recovered by Merc assist on Monday and the part arrived on Friday.

Mine drove ok so I took it in. Illegal though as no speedo.

2011 car with only 48k miles on it and they charge you 50%??!!

I would have taken that further, it is taking the piss. Especially as a few seem to be going.

Is this happening in the facelift?

Mines a late 2011 facelift. Its happened to mine and kianok, not all of them.

Any suggestions then. MB customer services for instance?

Yeah, I would do a search and find as many others that have had their clusters fail, say it is obviously a design fault and you expect it to be paid in full, see what they come back with?

If not I bet a dash repair guy could sort it for a tenth of that price.

I've read that it could be sent away and maybe repaired but the diagnostic costs, labour and re install would still be there, and the car off the road for longer of course.

Its not a problem that seems common on the forums from my searches either.

I agree. It looks like it was more common on w203's from my searches.
