Does anyone know how to permanently display the external temperature on a UK car (ML 300 CDI)

I assume you want to permanently display the temp where the kmph readout is. On UK cars you cant unless the cluster is reprogrammed using STAR and UK mode is removed. A main dealer wont do this for you so you will have to find an independant with STAR. But it cant be done on newer cars so will depend on what year your car is.

Thanks for the speedy response.
It is a new car (picked it up yesterday) - this seems like a strange ommision do you not agree?
Does it alert you if the temperature is below say 5.0c?

You wont be able to remove UK mode then. You can however view the current outisde temp in the cluster. Go to the current mileage readout and press up / down button.

Thanks for that - do you know if it alerts you (without being displayed) - i.e. if the temperature suddenly drops?

Not as far as I know unless it is a feature in the latest cars. Check your handbook.

Having just answered this on the other forum, if you read the owner's handbook for the ML it states that for UK cars the outside temp is permanently displayed in the status line when the digital speedometer is selected in the cluster settings.

There is no alerts to sub 5c temperatures. The handbooks states that ice may be present at temps above freezing and you must adapt your driving according to the weather!

Thanks everyone for the replies - I have read the manual and can display the external temp. but when selected - this displays for about 30 seconds and then reverts back to displaying the speed in KM.

No big deal I suppose - just never had a car in the last 10 years that has not had the ability to permanently display the ext. temp. so didn't think to ask when deciding on the car - my error.

Reason it wont let you is to do with rules that the speed in KMPH must be visible in case the car is driven abroad. On the speedo dial it only shows the speed in MPH.

The actual ruling is that the KPH must be selectable. On older cars one can have the "UK Mode" deleted which allows the temp to display constantly in the status line in the MFD but the car still complies with the ruling as one can select to display the KPH should one wish.
