Earlier this week I did 118 miles on DISTRONIC + (Nottingham to St Albans). It was OK, if a bit disorientating. Is this any kind of record?

Why would it be a record - or are you implying you did nothing but steer?

For ref I did for nurburgring (end of autobahn) to calais on radar cruise earlier this year including a good stretch at 150+ (where in the BMW the dash warns you the radar/ collision warning will sound but may not effective at speeds over 130....)

Yes I just sat and steered for 118 miles, didn't touch a pedal, was tap dancing like Roy Castle, but obviously slower, the whole way.

My question was intended to provoke a discussion (light hearted or otherwise) of the use and value of DISTRONIC +, an option that costs £1,895 as part of the Driver Assist package on my car, something anyone thinking about buying it, may be interested in.

It is a great option. love it on the bmw.. as I say i did nearly 300miles on it across Germany, Holland Belgium and France.

don't know if Distronic + and Distronic are the same thing but when i picked up my car from Mercedes Epsom, went down to Kent then used Distronic all the way home to Scotland stopping once for fuel.

Looks like that's a NO, then...

I've got it on mine. Turned it on for five minutes, it freaked me out, and I switched it off again. Must be a control freak.. ;)

Can the blind now drive using Distronic + ?

I'm looking at a replacement car and Distronic is on my list of requirements.

I enjoy 200 mile Scotland trips without using the pedals.

It makes the video in motion mod very worthwhile.

Can I sum it all up ?

Distronic + is a £1900 option that you can have fitted to your new car so that it maintains a calculated 'safe' distance form the car in front and will adjust speed and distance accordingly if the car in front slows down or speeds up or, more importantly, some ignorant ****wit ******* of a driver decides that your safe space is for his car to be placed into and then re-adjusts to create a new space in time behind the original car you were following.

Sod the Distronic - get a fook off '63 engine - full beam and noise the *******s up that dare to encroach on YOUR space.

;)

It does make facebook, forum posting and replying to corporate emails much easier. I'm not sure you should be watching your collection of specialist films, one handed whilst you traverse the roads of 3rd world nations.

I'v got both :D

Have to say though i'd never had Distronic on my previous cars, now that i have it i don't think i can live without it.

Went down to London and back in one of the other cars in the family and it's a lovely motorway cruiser but doesn't have distronic, i just didn't feel comfortable driving it.

Great Distronic and Distronic + Fan
