Long story, that I would rather not get into at this moment...

A few questions...
1. Can anyone recommend a UK based divorce lawyer, who has experience dealing with cases across (multiple) borders?
2. Is it normal for divorce lawyers to ask for part of the estate (in this case an apartment) to be handed over prior to contracting?
3. The current quote is 2% of the estate value for the end-to-end process... not having a clue as to what this would normally be, it's not the figure that I'm puzzled about, but as to why the price is linked to the estate value... is this normal?

Thanks,
M.

1. I know an excellent divorce lawyer - but unsure about her having experience of the cross-border aspect. Gail Peterson Peterson Solicitors

2. This sounds VERY dodgy.

3. Fixed fee covered my divorce - with substantial assets including (owned outright, not mortgaged) business premises - again this sounds dodgy.

Fiona Shackleton - Best advice and money ive ever spent. Google her.

I just did!

Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia, I bet she's expensive.

Edit: Oh, she is, the controversy section of her wikipedia page mentions it.

Surely this should be the practice; people don't get a divorce lawyer so that they can share their assets with a third party.

Not something I have any experience with though.

My ex-wife’s divorce lawyer was the best at her job. Took me for every penny!

The fees that have been asked at this point aren't far off those quoted on wiki for Fiona...

Thanks for the responses, will reach out to Peterson...

Hope you get it sorted without too much extra expense

Used Tom Clements for an employment case and he seemed to be very good. Note that he claims to also specialise in divorce cases also but can't vouch for him on that front.

Are you sure your lawyer is not:-
1. Your wife
2. A relative/friend of your wife
3. Your wife's lover
4. Your wife's lover's relative/friend ?

The answer to your questions 2 and 3 is most certainly no under Law Society rules, all fees should be time related and not a % of your entire fortune (that honour is reserved for the wife as no doubt you will find out)!

Good luck and I really mean that.

I’m sure there are many divorcees that thought they had!

Still no reason not to marry though.

It’s like not wanting to drive a car just in case you have an accident. :)
