From 0:42, it looks like the dash cam driver walks up to the G and does some stealth coffee-shaking at Joe Uttercock... 😆

wonder if plod will charge him with driving without due care for cutting across five lanes of traffic? bet he wishes he had gone round the roundabout and used the correct lane now.

The G wagon has the styling of a 1970's filing cabinet and of course whaddah yah expect from a Steyr PUCH military vehicle range !!!
About 20-years ago I was doing a thriving business repowering G wagons & 404 Unimog's with OM617 TD 5 banger engines plucked from 123 platforms.
On icy road and wet conditions the G Wagon has a mind of its own especially when the turbo kicked in
And then testing a fat wheeled tonka of a 404 unimog chassis cab and passing cars on the Boulder turnpike at 80 mph plus , a voice in my head said You need to see a psychiatrist!
Tuercas viejas

Sh!t bit of driving, not only for the speed but also the cutting across multiple lanes.

Money doesn't equate to numbers of brain cells! haha

The G wagon of the 70s I don't believe has a lot to do with todays model.

... apart from woeful handling, it would appear?
You don't know what speed that vehicle was doing or how slippery/bumpy the road was at that point and the skill of that driver.
He's a much more skilled driver of course but Chris Harris will tell you there is a big difference between the two.

Not being designed to take a corner at high speed does not equate to being a woeful handler.

Not at all. For all the modern electronic gizmos, it's still a separate chassis and beam axle just as its always been, with a nice high CoG. You can only bend the laws of physics so far.

In 2018 they finally fitted IFS at the front end. This was necessary to support rack and pinion, which was pretty much solely to facilitate lane departure etc...see earlier statement about gizmos.

However, that in itself creates some handling idiosyncrasies. The 100 series Landcruiser has the same setup (IFS front, beam rear) and the 2 ends move in different ways under compression/load. It makes for an interesting reaction if you start driving it like a eejit (not that I ever did that I mine, no sir)

Can you imagine what the insurance would've cost for a 21-year old on an AMG G-Wgaon... and then imagine what it's gonna be now lol

But yeah, 'kids' with no specific tuition shouldn't really be allowed these... If you're a 21 year old Lewis Hamilton, sure, go for it. Some random footballer kid in a 600+bhp 4x4 that handles like a blancmange...
i was with the impression that high torgue cars can only be driven after the age of 25, or maybe not in the uk

I’m not aware of that in the UK. The only limitation that I’m aware of is whether an insurer will provide cover, and if you have deep enough pockets then it will be possible to find insurance somewhere.

I recall stories from the 90’s of youngsters quoted £20k+ annual insurance for Escort Cosworths. I.e. almost the value of the car - the insurers perhaps calculating that a claim was all but inevitable. Could be an apocryphal story of course.

The liklihood of the car getting stolen probably also played a part.....

Yes, good point - THE most stolen car at the time.
