C class 180k auto estate 57
Hello fellow MB members
As you know I have a C Class Classic 180k W203 estate auto 57 with 7500 miles on the clock, I’m thinking of buying a new shape C class 180 saloon 09. I have had an offer for £10500 cash from (we buy any car.com)for my car, I have not contacted my local mb dealer yet to see how much they will offer me for px but up on checking the prices for 09 c class 180 saloon, they are good few thousands more than independents or car supermarket like car giant and others, could you please help me choose

I think that getting a quote from We Buy Any Car is a good starting point. Not sold them a car myself, although I have got quotes from them. However, some of the members here have used them, as have some non-MB drivers I know, and they seem to have a strategy of making you an offer on the net, and then when you take your car in expecting a smooth cash transaction, they reduce their offer. This happened to a friend of mine who had an old Rover. They offered him £650 initially, which he did not act upon. He then received an email prompt, telling him the quote had expired and that he should get another one. This time it came up with £450. He was not happy, but had decided the car must go, so he accepted and took it in, only to have the offer further reduced to £150.

I would pop along to your MB dealer to see what they will offer. Their price will probably be fairly indicative of what you can get in part-exchange. However, their asking prices will probably be higher than other places, as you mention, so you can use the price that they have given you as a bargaining point if you are negotiating elsewhere. Asking prices and part-exchange values can be misleading, as the only thing which matters is the amount you have to part with in addition to your current car. Also, if you have a local MB indie, they might offer you a cash price that is similar to the part exchange value, which would then give you another option if you find a nicely-priced car where a decent part-ex price is not offered.

I changed cars myself just this week, and that is largely the process I went through. What was interesting was the prices on various car valuation websites, all of which gave a price considerably higher than I was offered by anyone. Just goes to show that no matter what price anyone might think they can ask for their car, it is only worth what someone else is willing to pay:(

That should sell easily with low mileage on the private market

Put it on ebay, No Reserve, start bid £10k for seven days, spend some time on your add as people like to know the car was well cared for.
Then go in to the dealer with cash as cash will always be king!

Put is on ebay as a classified advert and on autrtader online (£15.99 for 2 weeks with 16 pics and 1000 words) for £13,500 and it will sell I bet, may get beaten down a grand but you will still be £2k up.

2 weeks, online only = £33 with AutoTrader. Prices have gone way up. They take the piss with offers on the front page, but if you go through with an add it presents you with the price choices at the end and that's the cheapest package. Probably worth it for non-specialist cars though.

Experiences with eBay Motors are not great .. poor levels of interest and mostly d**kheads or criminals!

Selling a car can be a real hassle, but when you're talking about loosing more than a 4/5 star 2 week family holiday by doing PX, you feel a bit guilty!

OK, so he'll only be £1,982.99 up by using Autotrader

Dont want to put you off but have heard many Horror stories of people selling their cars to webuyanycar. I know this from a couple of friends so not all hear say.

Apparently they make a 'provisional' half decent offer over the phone or via web???, then make you wait hours when you get there while they check it out. After they've ripped it apart and deducted thousands for ANY sign of use or wear, they make a paltry offer. People are by this time generally so fed up bored and demoralised they take what ever pathetic offer they're then given.

Just check out their increase in earnings last couple of years. Though they claim its advertising. Wasnt there also a story run on watchdog about them, cant vouch for this though.

I sold my last car private through ( autotrader) kept getting texts from ( we- buy- anycar) so after my car had gone filled in the text from anycar there offer was ok . I got more through selling private but there offer was better than my local mb dealer offer me .

Thank you for all your comments ,I will try the auto trader and ebay root and see how it goes as far as we buy any car they seem to raise there offer every forth night and as for the main dealer I would have thought there would be good deals on the new shape C Class (part one) as the new shape (part two)are out this year but I have not seen one.

If you are happy with the offer, I would sell to webuyany car.

No hassle with tyre kickers, dodgy guys trying to car jack you, nut jobs finding every little hair line scratch on your car and wanting a 1k reduction in price per mark.

Its just to difficult to sell a car these days!

I had a 2006 Shogan (12 months ago) and thought I would try webuyanycar.com.
They offered me £500 more than what I was trying to get on Autotrader.
In the time it took me to get around answering the quote, they sent me another message saying that they increased their offer by £250.
I took it along the next day, and they offered me spot on the money. I could not fault the service and price.
If you car is spot on, full history and no marks other than what you have said on the only quote tool, then why worry. If they knock you down. . walk away. If they dont, take the money (which arrived 3 days later by Baccs).
An excellent service in my case.
Thought I would add it in, as it appears people are slagging them off a bit. But I had nothing but a positive deal.
:)

The Autotrader route is absolutely fine if you don't mind the hassle: and it can be a lot of hassle:wallbash: Apart from the tyre kickers and the "what's the lowest you'll take?" people, if you sell your car first, it does limit your ability to get out and about to check out potential replacements.

Not that I would deny you can often get a much better price that way, but whenever I have tried it (probably 5-6 times), it has never been a particularly enjoyable experience.

you've obviously never used them.

webuyanycar is owned and operated by uk car group, the same muppets that brought us carcraft

the employees are trained to devalue the car

""I had a two-day induction course when I joined and was told how to play down a car's positive features and how to accentuate its negatives. I was told to sound as if I knew what I was talking about and people would believe me." The Mirror 28/03/10

at best they will take the value down by the average of 28% (stats from mirror article and other online sources) at worst they will intimidate you and make it seem like there is no option BUT to sell the car to them

i live a stones throw from the autoparc in gosforth, and i'm friendly with alot of the dealers there... not a single one (and there are some dodgy lads work there.) would ever use, or endorse webuyanycar.com

to read more horror storys go to moneysavingexpert.com and check out the forums there.

good luck selling the motor, but be wary if you decide to use them.

from a buyers point of view you cant knock them for trying to haggle the price down-the problem being too many sellers wanting stupid money-
just today on ebay as an example one seller wanting £4k for a 96N E200 estate.

the more inflated prices are advertised the harder it is to be realistic about
pricing

and ebay seems to be one of the worst offenders of this

But as a buyer, would you even bother enquiring if the seller is asking stupid money?

I'm in the market to buy an SLK 350 and would gladly pay the 'webuyitnow' price and pay more for the right car.
This is an example
Dealer car SLK 350, 54 reg, 46K miles for £12.5K
Parkers also give retail at £12.5K and PE price £10K. They don't quote trade but it will be less, perhaps £9.5K. Now I put the car reg into 'webuyanycar' and it came up with £9K. I would gladly pay that or even the PE price for the car in question. The figures show the dealer mark up could be as high as £3.5K.
I looked at the C class discussed here but may not have got the right model.
Parkers give retail around £12.3K and PE £10.1K (I allowed £30/1K miles adjustment in those figures for the low milage). So 'webuyitnow' are offering more than the PE value at £10.5K, a different story to the SLK example (but as said may have got the model wrong). I've started to look at British car auctions and note that UKcar does a lot of business there and it is said here that 'webuyanycar' is part of that group.
I would like to know where 'webuyitnow' get rid of their cars, perhaps they retail the best and take the others to auction. If they take them to auction they I'm sure still want to make a profit so would offer much less than trade price as in the SLK example.

thanks to every one for giving me good advice on what is good and bad about the (we buy any car ) I must say I am a bit taken back by the %28 down grade but glade that you told me now I can go their with open eyes if I decide to try them out ofter all I have nothing to lose as the other wise man said I could just walk out and about my car it is in good condition and I'm not looking for silly money only what she is worth .

Must be joking to go with We buy any car. I bought a Subaru Legacy 3.0 R Spec B wagon, a 2005 model a couple of years ago for £7k, which was well cheaper than most around. Immediately went onto WBAC and they offered less than £5k for it. This was when most Spec Bs were nearer £9 to £10k.

Stay well away!

have you tried mb retail, they are more likely to give you a deal than most other dealers, especially if you want to upgrade.
